You can get a replacement U board at the following link which is most likely the problem as the U board has all the input sources on it. Look under the Sony parts category for the U board. They have the one for your model http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/
audio out from your tv to your reciever gives low output? how do you have everything hooked up i have vcr to tv dvd to vcr audio to my reciever and vcr tv thru piggy back plugs therefore i can only have tv audio or reciever or both
The problem i had was when i would play my tv. I had it hooked from my dish to the sony then the tv. When i played a dvd,cd or the tuner it didn't make that noise. It seems my video/audio 2 channel was going bad. I disconnected my rca jacks and used the optical audio connection. The noise stopped and i got a better quality sound.
If you can not turn on TV set with the power button on the TV its not a standby problem as this would by pass the standby. Theres most likly, on a set of this age, top have a poiwer regulator problem and is going to need a trained tech to assist you in this repair.
