OK YOUR DVD DRIVE HAS A LENS PROBLEM
BRING A DVD CLEANER DISK AND ADD LENS CLEANING FLUID TO THE CD S READING SURFACE AND INSERT THE DISK TO THE DRIVE AND WAIT FOR 1 MINUTE THEN EJECT AND REPEAT THE PROCEDURE WITHOUT LENS CLEANING FLUID
AND OF COURSE THE CD SHOULD BE DRIED OFF BEFORE YU INSERT IT TO THE DVD ROM

My Sony Viao laptop DVD drive doesn't function! Please suggest a remedy to make it work. The solution posted, I couldnt comprehend, that was Please note that this works only with the Windows drivers....

1 Click on MY COMPUTER icon on the desktop. select properties on the pop menu. Select the device manager. All the drives loaded will be listed up. Select DVD drive and see there is no Yellow warning sign next to it. If there is no yellow sign click on this drive and click properties. You will find that it shows whether drive is working properly or not. In anycase you click on the update drive tab and wait for the action to complete. Then try playing DVD. If still there is no improvement go to support section in SONY web site and download the latest DVD drive for your model. Hopefully it should work now.

When I play a movie the picture and sound gets "choppy" even with NEW dvds

You can try using another media player. If that does'nt work ,your DVD drive may be bad or need cleaning.Sometimes a bad ram chip can cause the video to mess up.Try playing a movie directly from your HDD downloaded from a website and see if its choppy if its not then its your DVD drive. If it is still choppy it could be the media player your using or it does'nt have enough ram memory/virtual memory. If you have XP change your virtual memory settings and the refresh rate in task manager.(Bring up task manager,go to view tab then update speed to HIGH).

Help!!!

First shut down any othe apps that are runnig. Even disable norton AV if it is running while watching a move. Second do a disk clean up from the system tools menu, third make sure windows is controlling virtual memory. Finally get a DVD playe like Power DVD. It is much better at playing DVD's than media player that can be a real pig.
