LCD screen gone dark, can still hear sound and see image

Haven't moved or used my TV for a few weeks. When I turn it on it all turns on like normal and image is clear, then suddenly flicks to dark screen after about 3 secs. Sound is perfect and remote works fine, just the screen is darker than it should be (I can still make out the screen though, its not completely black)

It wouls appear one of the backlights in the screen is cutting out, this will require the screen to be replaced although in certain circumstances, depending on the age & model of your TV, it is sometimes possible to change the faulty backlight independantly. Take it to a repair centre to get an anaylisis of the type of screen it has.

LG TV 55LW5300 won't turn on. Ref light comes on flashes, turns blue, and then goes off. No picture or sound, except the click sound that I normally hear when the TV turns on and off.

You need to do some troubleshooting first. Turn the TV on make sure the room is dark take a good flashlight and shine it at the screen and flip through the HDMI inputs. if you don't see an image then it's most likely your main board you can have that fixed or repaired at pts electronics. If you do see an image then the backlights aren't working and you need to check the outputs to the backlights at the main board. The TV is worth fixing

How do I fix my TV that will give an image after powering on, and then make it go so dark you can't see it?

This is what happens when the backlighting circuit fails. It can either be the lamp or the inverter board. This is one reason the newer TVs/Monitors are using LED backlighting. They last longer. Typical LCD backlighting can fail in as little as three years if they are left on full time.

I have a LG 42LB5D 42" 1080 LCD television that

hi, usually you can correct this issue with only a few system checks, dark streaks can be caused by damaged pixels on the screen, in which case you need to replace the TV.
  • Inspect where the dark streaks are on the television. If the streaks occur at the same place on the top and bottom of the screen, they are due to the formatting of a movie or television show you are watching. This is normal. Also, if the streaks appear on the left and right of the screen, they are due to the show being filmed in full-screen instead of wide-screen. This also is normal.

  • Change the input setting so you are viewing the contents of a different device. If the dark streaks are gone, you know they are due to the device connected to it. However, if the dark streaks remains no matter what input the TV is connected to, the problem lies with the television.

  • Inspect the cable connection. Oftentimes when connecting a computer to an LCD TV, you can have strange dark streaks across the screen. Use a DVI-to-HDMI cable connection when plugging in your computer, then press the "Menu" button on your TV remote, select "Picture" and chose "Square Pixel." See whether the image adjusts and the dark streak goes away.
  • Contact the manufacturer of your LCD television if the dark streak remains. This streak can be caused by a defect in the television; if the TV is still under warranty, you can have it replaced.

When I turn on the tv, the left side of the screen is dark. Then after 10 minutes or so, the images become normal.

It sounds like you have a bad slave inverter board. I've fixed a few of them with the same problem and it's always been this board. With the back off of the tv, it will be the board located all the way to the end where the problem is. It will have several wires going from it to the screen. You will probably have to get the part number off of the board to be able to find one, as I couldn't find one by using that model number.

Monitor Goes black, or flickers on and off

The high pitch sound is coming from the inverter. It is faulty and needs to be repaired or replaced. The inverter supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp, this lamp gives the backlight to the LCD so you can see the LCD images.
