Belkin F5D9230-4 won't allow a connection to M Exchange server

My Belkin F5D9230-4 works fine for Internet connectivity, wireless and wireline. But, when I try to connect my OutLook client over VPN to a MS Exchange server it will not connect.

When I directly connect my computer with an ethernet cable to the DSL modem, bypassing the Belkin all together, and with a VPN connection it works fine.

Any ideas on how to configure the router to work with MS Exchange?

    Msoft IT Pro,

Thanks for theresponse. I will check and see if there is a firmware upgrade available.

I also planned to check with the Exchange Admin on Monday to find out if there is something they are aware of that I need to do.

    OS = XP SP3
VPN Client is Windows. Created using Network Connections > Create a New Connection

In the VPN Properties > Networking tab > Type Of VPN: drop down is set to Automatic.

I will let you know how this goes. Thanks again.

I just checked to see if there is a firmware upgrade for my router and Belkin said no there is not. The current firmware Version = 5.01.16.

A Belkin support guy had me setup my computer with a private IP and put it outside the NAT. That did not work either.

Login to your Belkin router and check to see if there is a firmware update available for your specific model. If so, download and install it as this may resolve the problem without doing anything else. (Be sure to save your configuration first)

The specifications for a F5D9230 state that it supports VPN passthrough so you shouldn't need to configure anything in the router itself. It may be necessary to open a few incoming ports but only as a last resort.

Would you also reply to this post and specify...

  1. What OS are you running on your pc?
  2. What VPN client are you using on your pc?
  3. Ask the administrator of the Exchange server if they're using PPTP or L2TP for VPN connections.
Another option would be to use OWA (Outlook Web Access) to access your email if it has been installed on the Exchange server.

Login to your router and open ports 1702 (L2TP) and 1723 (PPTP) then check to see if you're able to gain access.

In all honesty, you shouldn't have to do this, and I don't even like suggesting it because it makes those port visible to the world.

I have a Belkin F5D8233 and I didn't have to do anything to connect to my corporate VPN.

Let me know how it turns out and I'll see if I can get some explanation out of Belkin.

Belkin confirmed you do in fact need to open the inbound ports in your router that your corporate VPN server is configured to use.

Make sure the ports are forwarded to the ip address of your pc.

Belkin router is unable to connect to 2Wire ADSL modem/router. 2Wire router has DHCP server enabled and Belkin has DHCP server disabled. Belkin is set to obtain an IP automagically. 2Wire IP is...

If the Internet light is off then there is a problem with the phone line to the ADSL modem or the modem is faulty or there is a problem at the telephome exchange.
Disconnect the phone cable at the ADSL modem and connect a phone handset to this cable - check for a dial tone and that you can dial out.
If you don't get a dial tone, use a different or new phone cable.
If the phone line is OK then : -
Ring your ISP to get them to test your connection to your ADSL
modem.

Earthlink mailbox will not "see" internet with belkin F5D7234-4 v3 router, it gives "Mailbox can't connect because you are offline. Please connect to the internet and try again." I can surf all day and...

I had this happen a while back as well.
When you installed the router, your DHCP settings in your router most likely gave your PC the router's IP address as the DNS server.
Earthlink Mailbox refuses to use any DNS servers except for Earthlink's DNS. I think this must be hard-coded (on accident or by design, I am not sure).
I know this because I had the same problem. I allowed their helpdesk to remote into my PC, and all they did was statically configured my NIC to use Earthlink's DNS servers; the Earthlink Mailbox worked fine after that.

I've got a problem with a Belkin G Plus mimo

Sounds like you've already had problems with belkin's interface. Configuring servers & NAT is a pain on belkins, at least I've always had probs with them.

Assuming you have Windows Firewall, Norton, Mcaffee & all other stuff like that NOT running on the PC,
The easiest way to get your game through any router is to put the PC in the router's DMZ during game play. The catch is sometimes the DMZ doesn't work right on Belkins. Sorry.

Anyhow, If you have opened ports you should be able to easily do the following.
Assign your all your PCs static IP address in the belkin subnet 192.168.2.xxx. Go into the belkin setup at 192.168.2.1 (no pass needed unless someone assigned one) and turn off DHCP.
Then put the Gamer in the DMZ. You'll have to poke around a bit for the right configuration pages but it's not that complicated.
