I have a true 48 12, is there a reset button on the condenser? it didnt get cleaned properly and a glove got caught up in it and it over heated and shut down.

  • ze1chef Aug 22, 2009

the whole lower unit is not powering on. I cleaned the coils, the fan inside the unit is working, but that is it. I meant the compresser, instead of the condenser.

Do you think the compressor is no good? or could it be the relay?

Remove the glove and let it cool down for 24 hours. you may get lucky and it will just start back up. if it does, great. if not you will have to have the condenser tested and possibly replaced.

You have to power off and unplug the unit to get that gloves out.. there was no reset button to stop or restart the condenser, it was automatically turn on/off by the unit relay.

True T-35F-HC 40" Solid 2-Door Reach-In Freezer. It shorted and is now running hot. Could it be stuck in defrost mode or something more serious?

Question edited for full 'make model (what it is)'.
Question moved to model category.

I endured a 50 year career in catering and many years fighting refrigeration. The thing I learned that the only thing a normal person / manager / owner could do is clean the condenser fins. anything else is the domain of the refrigeration engineer.

It could be stuck in defrost mode if the defrost cycle is like a heat pump and reverses the cycle to heat the evaporator and cool the condenser. The other possibility is a faulty control board. The only way to fix is to call for service. Tell the engineer everything that happened, as it will speed his diagnosis.

True are a great brand. The place I retired at Toronto Airport was full of them.

True Freezer, compressor not turning off. It is getting cold. The fan inside turns on and off but compressor runs for hours.

Hello Vic, I'm not sure what model of Freezer you have, but I suspect that the "condenser" coils on the back or underside of the unit need to be vacuumed or cleaned to rid of the dust bunnies, cat/dog hair etc. The compressor is likely trying desperately to do it's job, but that array of pipes are the only way it can get rid of the heat that it is stealing from the inside of the freezer. IF the coils are clean or if it still keeps running after cleaning... no matter what setting the "cold" dial is set to, then likely there could be a relay that has fused close preventing the unit from cycling properly. I hope this helps! /The GreyOne

Is there a reset button on a rheem outside unit?

Depending on what you are trying to reset. Most Rheem outdoor condenser units have a red reset button located near the copper refrigerant lines. This button is used to reset the high pressure switch. This switch is a safety for the compressor which protects it from running high head pressure, in case of a condenser fan failure, restriction is the discharge refrigerant line / condenser coil, etc. More information like a model number, serial number, is the unit not coming on, etc.

No heat

One of 4 things to check.
First remove the cover on the back and then...

1.) Check the Bottom Thermostat for a Red Reset button in the middle Push it and see if it clicks and resets.

2.) If no reset button (Not all models have em) then use a multimeter to check the Thermostat. If faulty then the heating unit is bad and will need replaced. If its good then

3.) There is a NTC on the front behind the control panel. Uou need to check this.

If that's OK then it's probably the the main control board but...it's usually the heating unit. or the reset button so check those first.

My true freezer won't defrost?

Check the defrost timer (in the base, circular knob you can turn till it clicks) If it doesn't heat up rapidly in the evaporator, there is a safety overheat device (thermistor) that may be cutting power to the heater, or there may be a fault with the heater itself. Are you sure the fans are working, and the condenser grill is nice and clean?

I have to push the red reset button about once a day on my outside unit. What can cause this?

Depends on what the reset button is for.

If it is a low pressure cut off then you are probably low on refrigerant or have a dirty inside evaporator coil or bad airflow across the evaporator coil.

If it is a high pressure cutoff then you have a bad condenser fan motor, dirty condenser coil or it is over charged with refrigerant.

If it is an electrical overload reset button then the unit is pulling too many amps or over heating due to refrigerant loss and/or dirty condenser coil.

I'd wash out the condenser coil, ensure that the condenser fan is running, make sure you have a clean filter inside and that the blower is operating properly. If those things are OK and it still pops that reset then call a service tech to look it over for you.

Water is always accumulating in the bottom of my fridge

Do you have proper ventilation for the compressor? It could be that your fridge has heat trapped and it's causing condensation.
