Hi.
Tried to upgrade the memory in my Acer Aspire 5601 laptop running Windows XP SP3. It currently has 2 512MB DDR2 SoDIMMs (1GB) and tried to upgrade to 2 2GB DDR2 SoDIMMS making 4GB total. Once the 2 2GB modules are installed, when I switch on the laptop the power light comes on then after a few seconds goes off again then keeps going on and off without booting. I then removed one of the 2GB Sodimms and the laptop boots up into windows xp as normal, and recognizes 2GB memory. I have rechecked the acer website and this laptop does support 4GB memory. Any ideas what is causing this issue with 4GB memory?
Did you try swapping the order of the memory sticks in the machine? for example, if you put stick 'a' in slot 1, and then put stick 'b' in slot 2, did you reverse it and put stick 'a' in slot 2 and stick 'b' in slot 1? sounds corny but i have fixed many computer memory issues in that way. also - have you verified you did not get a bad memory stick? can you boot (and will the computer recognize) stick 'a', then replace it with stick 'b'? try that and post what you find out here.

Acer systems are picky about the type of memory you use.
What is your RAM Speed on the old chips compaired to the new chip
You may have to reorder the same type of speed memory
Try this website it will tell you what will work with your system

I tried both modules in the same slot and they both worked but I have not tried alternating the 2 modules between the slots. I will try this out.
