Finalizing DVD disk

After recording a DVD it didn't give me the option to finalize. After putting the disk back in it asks me if I wish to format. Sounds like that will ruin what I recorded. Any suggestions would be appreciated

I recorded our christmas musical and the power was tripped before I finalized the disc. I know there is data on the disc because I see it. Do you have any suggestions of how to rectrieve the data off the disc.

In cases like this you should use nero to finalize the disk for you or stick it in the computer to get the data off the disc using nero as well.

good luck

E22 Error while finalizing dvd. can dvd be finalized?

Most likely a bad disk. With the disk inserted you could right click the drive and see if there is a format option. If it formats then try recording on it again

When I burn a DVD (R- or R+) on a Sony RDR-GX300 it burns the DVD which plays on that unit only. If I try to play the DVD burned on Sony RDR-GX300 on any other brand or any other Sony DVD player or even on...

On That Type Of DVD Recorder,( RW,R-R+). You Will Have To Finalize The Disk. Finalizing is Necessary When Playing On Any Equipment Other Than This Recorder.Even IF Your Other DVD Equipment IS ( VR ) Format Compatible You Still Need To Finalize The Disk. After Finalizing,You Cannot Edit or Record on The Disk,Make Sure It's In Video Mode.

Sony DCR DVD108 not finalizing disc, lost data

I noticed that too with my "VR" (and NOT "Video") formatted disks. I don't think you can finalize the VR ones. Instead you have to use the Sony Import tool to grab the videos. If you are like me you probably remember using the import tool with Video formatted disks BEFORE finalizing them and it takes forever to copy them. They must be finalized to view on other devices, copy using the import tool quicker, etc., but VR formatted disks seem optimized for importing (and can be edited on the camcorder directly.

Finalizing

Use a name-brand DVD, such as HP, Verbatim, etc. and make sure it is a DVD+R or DVD-RW/-R disk only.
It is most likely that the DVD you are using is not compatible.
The disk is still usable, but you can only read it on that player.

I am not able to format a blank DVD prior to dubbing from video(both +R and -R). Am I to assume if the "format disk" option in the menu is grayed out that the machine is telling me the disk does not need...

vfazzi - You shouldn't have to format a DVD - it should do that automatically when you put a blank one in, or when you start the recording by pressing REC. After the recording is done, you will need to finalize to play it in another player, and the option should then be available (It would "know" not to let you finalize a blank disc).
