USB ports in monitor fail intermittantly

USB ports that are built into this monitor fail intermittently. Have to plug USB's directly into computer, which is a pain.

I've tried cleaning the contacts, to no avail.

I had already connected this cable to the computer. I think that is the only way for the monitor USB ports to get their signal to the computer.

Connect the main USB cable of the monitor into the back USB port of the PC.

Why does my hp w2558hc widescreen lcd monitor goes out intermittently?

Lots of possibilities. Bad cable. Failing monitor inverter (converts AC from your house wiring to DC used by the monitor's internal components). Loose, corroded or dirty connections. Failing computer video card (not common, but possible). I would: 1. Check all connections, and plug/unplug cables several times, then ensure all plugs are firmly seated and tighten the screws (VGA or DVI only). 2. Test it with a different cable, preferably one which is known to have no issues. 3. Test it with different video types (I have an HDMI cable that will intermittently go out for 1-3 seconds, every 3-4 minutes, if I am streaming video from the Internet to my 42" LCD, but almost never does it when I am working with mostly static images). The cable is the cheapest component to replace, so I would suggest debugging it very thoroughly before moving on to much more expensive solutions (e.g., video card, monitor repair). Hope this helps you narrow it down.

Usb ports do not work

I have a 24" Dell monitor with built-in USB and SD sockets. Sometimes I have had problems with these not being responsive. This usually comes down to electrical connection.

You should do these in order, also testing for USB port availability at each step .
#1 is the monitor powered up? (USB is active only when monitor is switched on with power button on front of bezel)
#2 check that the USB cable at both ends is plugged in! (you need electrical connectivity)
#3 check that the USB port on the PC can see another device like a memory stick

#4 check your PC's software (drivers must be loaded and the USB port recognized)

My logitec dual action controllers fail intermittently

Yup, the USB connection is not secure. Its either your gamepad's wire or your PC's USB port itself. Try using other USB ports. If still the same problem you might have to buy a new gamepad.

Usb ports on side of monitor does not work

First check that the USB cable is fully connected between the monitor and the computer. Next, check if the monitor's hub will work connected to another port on the computer. (Ports do fail and cables do loosen.) Next check that the device(s) in question will work when directly connected to the computer.

If the hub in the monitor has failed, check if your warranty covers the hub and is still valid. Otherwise, it will be cheaper to get a new USB hub.

I hope this helps.

Uploading problem

There are a few different ways to upload them. I have found that when I connect the camera to the computer, sometimes I get scrambled photos. When I use a card reader, connected directly into the USB port, I get all good pictures. If I connect the camera OR the card reader to a USB hub, at least half of my pictures get scrambled. I take 3-4 thousand photos in a years time. I was happy to end the problem.

All USB ports not working

Sounds like a shorted out board. If you use a faulty device.. these can EASILY short out the USB controllers on the motherboard.

Alternative is to purchase a "PCMCIA USB expansion card" till you can replace the motherboard.

best wishes.
