I am trying to connect a Hitachi CP-X201 to a work computer that has only a 9 pin make port and a USB port to connect to and runs on Windows 2000. I have one RGB cable. How do I get these two machines talking to each other?

  • samspecmom Aug 22, 2009

The problem is on the computer end. It is old and only has a male 9 pin connection and one flat USB connection on it. I tried a cable with a square USB on one end and a flat USB connection at the other with no connection.

I have an HP TouchSmart 600. When it was updated to Windows 10, it no longer recognizes the Mad Dog external hard drive (model: MD-AEN350COM), and does not show it in file explorer.

I'm a bit of an expert on storage systems. (for sure externals)
it's a SATA HDD in a box with USB cable right?
mad dog,
did you :
1: use the power pack for it> (it came with it) use that !!!
do not tell me it works on other PC lacking that pack
we KNOW THAT aND WAY, (POWER ISSUES)

The usb ports can not run that hdd startup currents on vast numbers of Laptops with gutless 100ma usb ports. a fact.
2: next try all USB ports, test the ports with mouse to see that The USB port is even good, at all? next.

it must show up in disk manager first not explorer, its windows and that is a fact. (SEEN IN COMPUTER MANAGEMENT OF CP)
3: are you web connected?, when plugging in the USB cable.
if not , do not expect drivers of any kind to work .
steps:
a: PC on.
b: power pack connected to mad dog, put ear to MD case hear the drive spin, if not the power pack is bad, or the drive is dead.
c: plug on the USB cable last, hear windows(be web connected) go
DINGGONGSOUOND? it not the port is dead, try all USB ports
try looking in DM to see if USB ports are dead, some older laptops have USB3 ports that windows has missing drivers, and must be hand loaded by you to make uSB3 work(ask me how)
so try all USB ports. try a mouse on them all , all USB ports must work with a simple mouse. if not use only those ports that work with the mad dog.

dingdongsound = ms windows-system-sounds, called DEVICE connect, have volume up, and that enabled and you will get that sound for any USB connects.
try a mouse or usb stick on all USB ports to prove the all work. first.
then play with HDD. external.

Customiser 2000 will not connect to a laptop as it has a 9 pin serial port (female) and the laptops have a 15 pin (female) I have bought 2 different cables but none work it just says serial port did not...

Are you using a USB-to-serial adapter?

I *think* what the problem might be is that the COM port's not been set in Customizer. Within either of the Easy/Customizer apps, go to ScanCard>Communication Settings ... you'll open up a dialog box within which you can set which COM port your cable's going to use.

If you're compie savvy, you can go to the Windows Start button on Task bar>Control Panel>System>Device Manager>COM ports and SEE which COM port your cable's using.

But until your software knows what COM port your cable's using it will NOT recognize that you have one installed.

Please let me know if this doesn't help! Or if there's anything I can help with!! :)
