Firewire PCI card not recognized

I recently fixed up a d530 SFF for a friend of mine and we ran into a problem when we tried to install a pci firewire card along with the ATI PCI 7500 video card. The system doesn't recognize the firewire card at all and due to time constraints wasn't able to delve into the bios settings, but I did determine that the card is fine and it's not a driver issue.
I'm looking at 2 solutions, one if there is a bios setting that will enable the second pci slot to be utilized in addition to the first slot, and second installing a low profile agp video card to free up the first pci slot to install the firewire card.
Any suggestions as far as the bios fix or a suggestion for a affordable low profile agp card would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, DT

Thanks k24674 but card was seated properly but system just doesn't recognize the card looking for a bios work around or video option.

    Thanks, DT

k24674 thanks for the suggestion but the card was seated and it just is not recognizing the firewire card trying to find out if that can be resolved with a bios setting or do I have to resort to a low profile video card.

    Thanks, DT

Hello,

Sometimes, when one is inserting a card, one does not push it firmly in place. If some contacts are not well established, the card may not be recognized.

Hope it helps.

How can I add firewire to my HP s5730f slimline when the pci express slots are blocked? Is there a pci card I can use to add firewire?

Hi, yes, you should be able to add a firewire card that goes into a spare PCI slot inside your computer. I have provided some links for you to have a look at.

When you say your pci express slots are blocked, do you mean that you have a card, likely a video card, already installed in your pci express slot? You should have available pci slots anyway and you can purchase a fireward card and install it yourself. If you are unsure about this then you can do a search on youtube as there are lots of how to videos on there regarding this type of installation. Good luck. Andrew

I have quite a few d530-SFF systems. They have the ''standard PCI'' slot ''carrier'' that plugs into 1 of the 3 PCI slots on the M/B and has 2 full-size PCI slots. I installed a PNY Nvidia GeForce 8400GS...

I checked the specs on the video card thinking it must be PCI-e and not old style PCI but in fact there is an old style PCI meant for just what you are trying to do. The problem is the memory at 512meg plus the GPU put your power requirements at 300w and I bet you have at best 185w in those units so they won't even start and you won't be able to cram the bigger power supply in there. Go with a card that has lower specs and 64 - 128 ram and you should be ok. Just check the power req. JC

What model 2 or 3 Port FireWire PCI card (low profile) Adapter?

I could not find any product that would fit a SFF case. The best suggestion i have for you is to get the riser card adapter that will fit standard PCI cards in the Dell Optiplex 7xx models. here is the link and partial discription.

The Dual Full Height Riser from Dell™ enables you to fit two PCI card in its slots. This product has been tested and validated on Dell systems and is supported by Dell Technical Support when used with a Dell.

ATI Radeon 9250 PCI card not recognised.

Make sure the slot isn't disabled either by jumper settings or in the bios, and the card is securely inserted in the slot. If these aren't the case, you have yourself a bad card, or a bad slot.
