I had the same problem after a day at the beach. What I did was get a can of compressed air (from the computer section) and blow air around the lens as I repeatedly turned it on. It took about five cycles, but I eventually cleared whatever was preventing the lens from fully opening.

Good luck.

Stick the camera in the refrigerator for about 1 hour. Then try turning on. If that doesnt work stick in the freezer for about 30 minutes. What could it hurt? It worked for me

My camera lenes wont stay open

Usually the lens closing is a sign that the battery is dying. If there's not much power left for the camera, it will first close the lens so it's protected before powering down. Make sure you have fresh batteries, fully charged. If the battery is going bad it may not hold a charge for very long but appear to be charged when you first intall it.

My kodak Easyshare M340 10.2 MP lens will go out but it stops when it is out and won't go back in.

Please make sure that your battery is fully charged. Sometimes the camera will not function properly without enough battery power.
If this isnt a problem, check to be sure these isn't and debris between the circular cuffs of the expandable lens. Last, being very carefully not to push to hard, you can give it a weak budge back in if it happen to fall out of the tracks/sprocket.
Hope this helps-
