The camera is a Panasonic VDR-M55PP, it uses a DVD ram disc when taping. After a video is created, three folders are created. DCIM: This has a folder in it called 100CDPFP. This is usually for pictures. DVD_RTAV: This contains three files VR_MANGR.BUP which is a Unix Executable file VR_MANGR.IFO, and VR_MOVIE.VRO which are QuickTime Player Documents. This is where the video information is held. RTR_EXTN: This contains two files RX_DAT which says its a Script Editor Document and VR_STDUM.000 which is a Unix Executable file When I try to play the VR_MOVIE.VRO with QuickTIme it loads it and plays about a second of the video then the video camera is removed and it says "Device Removal" "The device you removed was not properly put away." So my problem is I haven't been able to download movies from my video camera to my computer as it doesn't seem to recognize the video source (VRO). I've tried an MPEG Streamclip software from Squared 5 but it does the same thing that QuickTIme does, disconnects the video camera.

SOURCE: failed creating file

I had to re-do the project, this time using Standard Quality rather than High Quality, and it completed creating the file(s) and writing the DVD.

SOURCE: IFO --> MPEG

You need a DVD ripper software, do a search for it on Google and you will find many softwares that will do it (for a price). I have not found any free software for that.

New mac computer, panasonic vdr-d220 camcorder

If you're running OS X and you have iMovie (part of the suite that comes with Leopard) then your mac has a pre-loaded driver.

Just make sure the disc is finalized, then connect it to your mac via the USB cable and select the CONNECT DISC option on the camera. OS X will ask you which program to open it with; choose iMovie. It will open a video capture screen which will allow you to choose which scenes you want to load from the camera. It will take a few minutes to capture the files and save them to a project folder in iMovie; they'll be visible to work with in iMovie from there.

Note: I believe that iMovie converts the .VOB (DVD) files on your camera to .MOV (Quicktime), which can result in a minor loss in quality. But unless you have Final Cut or some other editing software, I don't know any other way to get those videos on your mac.

I have a VDR D220 and I've used it on a couple of projects with iMovie with success. Good luck.

VDR M50 drivers for Windows Vista Ultimate

plug the camera in via usb so the camera shows up as a removeable drive. if it picks up the camera as a DVD burner instead of drive, install the DVD-RAM drivers (in compatibility mode for XP SP2 w/ administrative privileges if necessary) and browse the contents of the disc - copy and paste the VRO file to your hard drive and rename it as an mpg - should be readable at that point. good luck.

MAKE SURE YOU ONLY USE RAM AND -R DISCS IN THIS UNIT. IF THIS CONTINUES THEN THERE IS A LAZER OR LAZER BOARD FAULT.

Help - Capturing Video from a DVD-R Disc

I took the plunge based on manufacturers marketing claims and sales level tech support - Mistake! Panasonic VDR M50. The DVD-R disks are fairly straightforward. They can be played in my DVD video player and my PC, and I can use Fleximage DVD-to-AVI for conversion to a file format I can use for editing. The camera creates sequencial files for some reason and this software will only convert the first file. Very frustrating! I ended up playing the DVD-R on my DVD video player and using the video cable, transferred the video back to a DVD RAM disk on the camera. See DVD RAM problems below. The software that came with the camera has so far proven worthless. I have struggled with the DVD RAM disks. They are fabulous to use in shooting and editing on the camera but I cannot for the life of me get the DVD format converted off the DVD RAM. They cannot be read by my DVD video player or my DVD drive on my PC. I can see and even transfer the files to the PC through USB but for some reason, the DVD-to-AVI software will not recognize the files that were recorded and I cannot use the file format from the DVD ROM for anything other than viewing the video. Again, the software that came with the camera has so far proven worthless.
