How to install Adaptec SCSI driver when installing XP -Z Pro 6223
I'm trying to install XP Pro on an Intellistation Z Pro 6223. I need to load the Adaptec SCSI Ultra320 driver for it to work, do I need to use a floppy disk, or should I be able to pop out the XP install disk and insert a disk with the driver? I downloaded the driver from IBMs site and put it on a CD. When it came to the place to find the driver I put in the CD, but the Windows Setup couldnt find the files.
Without the driver it just says that it cant find any hard disks.
romsky79, not sure I get it? What do you mean sata xp cd. What I need is the driver for windows to recognize my SCSI hard drives.romsky79, not sure I get it? What do you mean sata xp cd. What I need is the driver for windows to recognize my SCSI hard drives.

You need a floppydisk including the Driver for the SCSI or Sata drive - Depending which HD You are using. If the controller is in motherboard You will find the driver from motherboard webpages. If it's a separate controller card - You will find it from it's web pages. XP doesn't support too well sata if it's not the XP SP3 version media. You may need to change the sata to compatibility IDE mode to get it up and running.
configure the bios settings, hdd should be scsi. maybe your current settings is sata or ide. if not work check the scsi controller if have installed driver or compatible to your unit.
Have you tried putting the drivers on a flash drive.
It is a method I have used to get drivers into the windows install.
Try it with the "press F6 to install drivers" during the text setup phase but make sure they are the dos level drivers that you try first !
If that fails then try the windows level drivers
Worked quite well on lots of early SATA stuff so you have nothing to loose.
You might also want to check that the varioususb settings in bios are set to legacy etc too.
If you are using Windows XP, the drivers are embedded. It will automatically recognize the SCSI card. For other OS try

S. Mohan.
That particular work station comes with both IDE and SCSI drive interface controllers. The IDE drive should be used for your OS. The SCSI drives for your data storage. Now, the issue is to get the SCSI to work in RAID_0 as I understand.
You iwll need a RAID controller such as Adaptec AHA-3940AU WD SCSI Host Controller, which may be found on eBay (used) for a very affordable price. The driver software may be downloaded directly from Adaptec, so I suggest you do that in the iterim peroid, and store drivers on a USB thumb drive.
I had the same problem with an Intellistation 6868 for years. It just wouldn't load XP but ran fine on Windows 2000 SP4. I tried 3 different XP Installation CD's with no luck. After several attempts at installing XP I bought a clean XP Upgrade from ebay.
It took me 3 goes to install it but eventually I got it in there. If you can get XP to start on the 6868 press F8 and start it in safe mode first then when it's booted fully, shut it down and and then start it clean again. It worked for me. I've been running it for 5 months now and it's fine.
I couldn't get it to work at all on the 6868's onboard IDE so I installed a PCI Raid Card and it boots fine on that.
System:
IBM 6868 52A M-Pro Intellistation
2 x Intel P3 866 CPU's 256 mb cache
2 GB ECC RD Ram
2 x Seagate 320 GB 8MB Cache HDD on a Sunix ATA133 PCI Raid Card
2 x Seagate 10000 rpm SCSI HDD on Adaptec Raid Card
ATI 9520 AGP 128mb Graphics
Win2000 Professional SP4 - Upgraded to XP Professional Edition SP3
Dual Boots with Xandros Linux Desktop Destop 3.01C
Mayeb you need to repair the OS - In which case you will need to have SCSI Controller XP OS floppy driver obtained from IBM website.
Start up the computer booting up from the CD ROM. Then when it comes to "install thrid party devices" - press 'S' and insert the floppy with the SCSI Coontroller on it and follow the on screen instructions.
A restoration disc is not a conventional Windows OS disc (and vice
versa), therefore it often cannot be used as if it were a true Windows
disc. The restoration disc includes the OS, but it also includes every
driver and other software product that came with your system. If
Windows were the only item loaded on your system, then a Windows disc
could serve as a restoration disc, but these days, using a typical
restoration disc is an all-or-nothing process.
A restoration
disc is your ultimate troubleshooting tool. Suppose that your copy of
Windows becomes damaged from a virus or key applications become
corrupted. Symptoms such as instability, crashing, indecipherable error
messages, and impaired performance are extremely hard to diagnose by
yourself—even if you have the help of a customer support technician on
the telephone. If the most common corrective steps fail, you can always
use the restoration disc to recover your PC back to its known-good,
factory-fresh state.
I have the same problem (on XP, Nikon Scan 3.1.2) ... IF I turn the scanner on before the computer (or turn the scanner on and then reboot) then Nikon Scan recognizes it. Can't say I'm happy with the solution, but it works consistently for me.

Got it now. Used nLite to add driver to CD.
