Tappan TMV151FS over range microwave starts to work and then dies

I have a 30in 1.5cuft Tappan over range microwave model TMV151FS.
I purchased this microwave on black friday, 2008 and had my cabinets/kitchen remodel project finished today. Today is the first time my microwave is installed and in use. It plugs in and lites up the timers and such...vent works, lights work, etc. I run the microwave for like 30 secs and it works. Now, cooking lunch, I run the microwave for 6 minutes cooking food...2 minutes or so into cooking, it dies...i mean no lights, no buttons respond, nothing. I unplugged it and plugged it back in...no life. I plugged another appliance into the same plugin and the other appliance works. After about 2 hours there is now spontaneous life again. So I set the timer for 8 minutes with nothing in the microwave to see what will happen...after about 2 minutes it dies again and it is still "dead". Any ideas?

Never run the microwave without a load (something to heat)!!! That kills the microwave generating parts.

Sounds like a 'thermal' protect switch is activating after running. Make sure that (if the unit is mounted in a cabinet) that there is sufficient space around the unit for proper air flow and that nothing is blocking the vents. Try setting it on a counter top and heat something. If it works properly and doesn't shut off, the venting space is the problem. You may have to have the cabinet that it sits in redesigned for more clearance.

Tappan Electrolux tmv151fs microwave/rangehood. turntable and cavity light intermittent (but work/fail in unison), all else work ok

Either a wiring problem or worn contacts on the relay that powers the two would be possibilities.

I have a Tappan tmv151fs microwave I can set the clock and it worksunless I open the door of set a cook time and start and then all the numbers on the display go to the light 8888

Before considering a control panel replacement, check all door switches to make sure they are making contact in both directions (some may be single pole double throw).

My Tappan TMV151FS MIROWAVE OVEN DOES NOT WORK THE MESSAGE READS (SE) IN THE LCD WINDOW CAN'T LOCATE MY OWNERS MANUAL CAN YOU GIVE ME ANY INFORMATION ON THIS PROBLEM THANK YOU LEO LAFLER

"SE" means you have a shorted membrane keypad.

The most economical repair (and a pretty simple one) is to replace your entire controller assembly.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Model TMV151FBA is black and model TMV151FSA is white.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

You would order one of these here:

PART DESCRIPTION COST
5304456080 Control Box, assembly, black $145.14
5304456081 Control Box, assembly, white $149.42

Tappan over range has no heat!

You have a bad high voltage diode, bad filter capacitro or a bad magnatron. The diode and capacitor does not cost very much. You can get them at www.mcmelectroncs.com . Replacement would mean removing the unit from under the counter, remove the case. Locate the diode and capacitor. They should be near the power section and the diode is attached to the chassis and one side of the filter capacitor. After replaceing both parts if the unit will not heat you would need a new magnatron. The part is fairly expensive but depending on the cost of your unit it may pay to replace it. Let me know if you need anymore help.

Filter replacement

That's covered on page 20 & 21 of your owner's manual under the heading"CHARCOAL FILTER REPLACEMENT"

1. Unplug oven or turn off power at the main power
supply.
2. Open the door.
3. Remove the two vent grille mounting screws. (3 middle screws)
4. Slide the grille to the left, then pull straight out.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts (including filters) by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.
