On Tuesday, December 10, 2007, I had the same problem with my D2020 Black and Decker. I ironed a shirt and was preparing to iron a pair of slacks when my iron started to beeping continuously. I unplugged it and plugged it back up and it stilled beeped continuously. I thought it was shutting down, so I decided to just press over the slacks, mistake. The iron was actually overheating and ruined the slacks.

Same thing. The Black & Decker D2020 iron started beeping continuously, and then it smelled as if it was burning up. I had to unplug it. I really don't know what to do.

Mine did the same thing.  Beeped continuously and seemed to be overheating.  After we unplugged it and waited a day, it has now stopped beeping but doesn't heat up at all.  The display still works, just doesn't get warm.  It's only about 6 months old!

Same problem. I've had the iron for less than a year. One day it seemed to over heat and was constantly beeping like it had it's own fire alarm--also bad burning smell. Turned it off. Turned it back on the next day and it does not heat up. Digital display works but no heat. Everyone has said the same thing. This product should be recalled. I never filled out the warranty information.

Izula,
We have had two D2020 Black&Decker Irons that did exactly the same thing. I love the iron...but they have both lasted about 2 months before burning!

This problem developed with our iron within the last week. Playing around with it today, I discovered that the dial WOULD respond to "persuasion". I forced it, and it cooperated. Find somebody with a stronger grip and try it.

Iron Blck & Decker: model D2020. I would like to clean my iron because is stared to stain all my clothes. I just open the white plastic parte on the back, but i dont see any other screws or how to get...

No need to dismantle the iron. Just fill it with a 50/50 white vinegar/distilled water solution and allow the iron to expel all of it as steam. Rinse with distilled water and allow to pass as steam. If you use distilled water from now on, you should no longer have staining problems. Hope this helps!

Good morning, My iron black & decker d2020 overheats, cools down and then goes through the process all over again.

The Thermostat has gone faulty. This can be replaced if you can get the parts. You need to contact, B&D indicate your problem, and exact, make and model, and inquire as to where you can purchase the parts, or if you do not wish to do it yourself, where to send it for repair.

How do I clean my Black N Decker Advantage Iron

I work for Black & Decker customer service. Our number is 800-231-9786.

You can obtain a new manual for free by visiting www.useandcaremanuals.com. Below is the section from the manual on care and cleaning of your iron.

Care and Cleaning

This product contains no user serviceable parts. Refer
service to qualified service personnel.
It is not necessary to empty the water reservoir after each
use of the iron, if you iron frequently.
To empty the iron, hold the iron over the sink with the tip
pointing down. Water will stream out of the water fill
opening.

TO CLEAN THE OUTSIDE SURFACES

• Unplug and allow iron to cool completely. Wipe the
soleplate and outer surfaces with a soft cloth
dampened in water and a mild household detergent.
Never use abrasives, heavy duty cleansers, vinegar, or
scouring pads that may scratch or discolor the iron.

• After cleaning, iron with steam over an old cloth to
remove any residue from the steam vents.
ABOUT THE SELF-CLEANING SYSTEM

• Use the self-cleaning system to flush out minerals and
lint. If lint is allowed to accumulate in the vents, it can
scorch and cause brown spotting.
For Models D2000 and D2020: Clean about once a
month.
For Models D2010, D2030 and D2035: A "CLEAN"
indicator will appear in the digital display to notify you
when your iron needs cleaning (A).

• Fill the iron as described in "How to Use" but keep the
water level below the MAX line. Plug in the iron, set
the temperature to 6, and stand the iron on its heel
rest. Allow to heat about 3 minutes.

• Unplug the iron and take it to a sink. Holding it
horizontally over a sink, move and HOLD the variable
steam dial in the CLEAN position ( ). There may be
some hissing and spitting while self-cleaning. This is
normal.

• Stay clear of HOT steam and boiling water as it comes
out of the vents while lint, scale, and minerals flush
through! Continue to hold the variable steam dial in
the CLEAN position until all the water has emptied.
If necessary, rock the iron side to side and front to back
to empty it.

• When finished, release the variable steam dial, stand
the iron on its heel rest, and plug it in. Heat for about
2 minutes to dry out any remaining water then unplug.
