Unable to record or skip backr skip forward or skip back. I have tried the power switch bit several times.

The main unit is the SA-AK270. The entire mini-system is called the SC-AK270. The manual is available on the Panasonic support site: https://www.panasonic.com/au/support/manual-download/audio/hi-fi/sc-ak270.html . You do need to accept the Panasonic terms of use to download the manual. The check box is below the box with the Manual description and View link. The clock setting procedure is shown on page 14 (with the remote). The pictures of the remote control and main unit buttons are on pages 8-9 of the manual.

With the remote, press the Clock/Timer button until the Display is showing the time. Press Skip Back/Rewind or Skip Forward/Fast Forward within 8 seconds of pressing Clock/Timer to set the hour. Press Clock/Timer again and use the same Rewind/Fast Forward buttons to set the minutes. Note: the SC-AK270 uses a 24-hour clock.

You can also do this by starting with the Display button on the main unit. Then use the Skip Back/Rew and Skip Forward/Fast Forward buttons on either side of the Manual Eq button.

1. Bad stylus.
2. Not enough weight - adjust weight on end of arm, or turn knob with numbers up slowly bit by bit, trying a record each time till it stops but doesn't "rumble".
3. Adjust anti-skate control if it's got one. Again bit by bit, testing with record.

Most DVR's don't have back up battery for holding setup data like your Computer. That means that you can never unplug or switch off the power supply completely. The clock runs off the mains supply so any interruption will make it revert back to factory settings.In other words you have to put it in standby mode when not in use to retain recording schedule / clock time etc.

It sounds liek your remote control button is sticking inside a bit.
To test it, have it playing, and hide the remote under a cushion so it can't possibly send a signal to the main unit.
Sometimes the rubber buttons need cleaning underneath, even though they don't appear to be stuck down at all.
Its also possible that the remote is actually just going faulty emitting fake signals. I have a HiFi that turns on and starts the radio all on its own (spooky!!!). I found its the remote occasionally sends a radio-on signal about once a week to the HiFi :)
I just hide the remote now unless i'm using the thing.

Hi the pennies will mess up the stylus. There should be an anti skate setting at the back of the turn table, a round adjustable bit with numbers, increase the anti skate and then use the balance weigth (weight right at the back of the arm that turns to get the weight right. Set the anti skate with the tone arm light, then increase the weight a bit. Hope that helps

Hello, I had the same problem and after spending a few hours reading and trying things, I found a solution. Its very simple. Power on your unit (manually) and then on your remote control push and hold at the same time"enter" and the number "1" while pointing directly to your unit and this should solve the problem. Good luck.

Check your needle. Make sure it is not blunt, try a Size 90 Topstitch needle or Embroidery needle. If you are using a thread thicker than regular piecing weight, you need a needle with a larger eye and a larger scrarf - the hollowed out bit at the back of the needle. Also don't sew too fast nor change direction too sharply. If you need to do a sharp turn, let the machine "mark time" once at the turn before moving off in the new direction.

To change the answer message, hold ans on/off then HOLD the skip back button, don't let go until you finish the message, to change the amount of calls untill it plays the answer machine hold skip forward button till it says how many the press the forward button till you are happy, to change date and time, hold stop, it will say the day to change press skip forward, then press stop again, it will say the hour, press skip forward, then stop the minute, then skip forward, then stop again to confirm, i belive it is in 24hour time as well, when changing the time, but not on playback.

More Timeconsuming troubleshoot:
One of the files being burned to the disc has a skip in it.
See about when/where it cancels the burn. That'll clue you about where it is on the file. Look for a section that shudders/ skips or otherwise displays only 1 frame for a time and doesn't forward. You'll need to go through the entire file on a slowfastforward (not superfast) to see where it begins to skip. Remove that section (set A-B) points and delete that section.

Try again. I found that it will record even with skipped frames to DVD-RW but will not burn to -R even if I took the RW burn and copied it back to the HD because the skipping portion is still part of the file.This happened whenever I edited very closely and was fine-tuning out any commercials. It happens also if you are watching another file while recording. When fast forwarding through a commercial on the file you watch, it taxes the portion that is recording a file at the same time.
If you're not sure and the other files have no dropped frames, then just sacrafice this one. You can burn 1 file at a time to narrow down which one it is.

Prevention: best to let it record and not watch another file at the same time. Let it focus on 1 thing at a time. I know part of the features say you can do both. They never mention that it doesn't do it well. See if you can juggle, ride a unicycle and carry on a conversation simultaneously. You could and there are exceptions who can do this professionally. DVDRs are not one of them.

Easy Troubleshoot: When it does this, reformat.
If you have anything on it, sorry, reformatting will erase everything. Do soon because these are warning signs. I had to reformat every 3 months or so. The last year it lived, it was 1xmonth. Then start over. As soon as you have something to test. Do it before letting the drive pile up more stuff. Then if it works again, great. Otherwise, you may have to reformat a few more times. If it's under warranty, get a work order and have them check it.


I loved mine but they don't market HD recorders like this anymore. After yours dies, consider a HomeTheatre PC but get one that can record HD ATSC signals. PCs can do it now but there is no living room recorders that can record HD yet. You have until 2009 to consider this for a future option. If all your stuff comes in on cable anyway, then no worries. Nothing will change for your situation. When mine died, the contract let them refund my purchase price but there was nothing to buy so I started looking at building one instead since the store also sells computer components. Good Luck.

Take the battery out and turn selection switch to camera and then turn it off. Put the battery back in and its working again.
if that doesn't work try
Try smacking the side of the camera relatively hard with the palm of your hand. Eject the tape and reinsert. You may need to do this a couple of times.
