Hi, I have a HP C6180 that worked fine for 2 years. First with XP and then with Vista. No issues there.
I just returned from holiday and when I try to start the printer the machine gets into a loop of powering up and powering down. All I see is the HP logo and a 'progress' bar where a black-white gradient passes through (indicating initialization I think).
There are no error messages whatsoever displayed.
I've tried the # + 6 reset many times, and also tried to get into diagnostics mode by holding * + #, after which I would have pressed 1 + 2 + 3.
The thing is: My HP C6180 doesn't react to anything I do. When I hold # + 6 long enough (10 sec or something) it turns off (like the reset guide says), but when I press the power button, it goes into the loop again!
It basically turns itself off and on now, out of my control. The only thing I can do is plug powercable out.
I can not use any functions like printing, scanning etc.
The Formatter board (main logic board) is faulty. You need to take the printer in for repairs to HP, in my experience though it usually works out better to replace the printer.
Testimonial: "Thanks for your expertise. It's shameful though, because I have recently bought new cartridges. New printer means new cartridges."
I have been searching all day for someone else who was having this problem! Printer only booting into that black and white screen with the gradient, only from there mine goes into a mode of display showing nothing but the various color bars. It wont (wouldnt do anything else I tried either) recognize or react to any key codes or commands, however after searching for so long today I have found so many key codes, that I decided to try one of the ones I had not used before.
The first one I used that was new for me was by using the # and 3 keys down during that black screen gradient. That got me back to the message regarding proper shut down etc, but hey! At least I am no longer being 'ignored' lol ~ I have had this machine for 5 + years now and the last print count on it was 8900 pages!! I have received my monies worth and more I believe especially when compared to how soon all of my other printers* failed* without having done half that much work! :)
