I would suggest buying it from Ebay. For example:

sounds like the unit itself is the problem. remove and replace or repair.

Try unplug,replug the unit back like about an hour later for the unit for resetting itself back to factory setting.If getting the same result the unit might have a shorted motor drive for the disc tray.Or shorted control panel on the unit itself.Well,this thing a basic DVD player only wright?If u can tries take it aparts and check out tries to repair it ur self that great.If u tries the shops,not worth it.Trash it.These basic DVD player only are very cheap now.U can get one brand new like $40 dollars.

Try a DVD cleaner disk, cleans the optical lens.

if the screen needs to be wired to the dash light switch it will not change unless the lights are on, if the wire is disconnected it is possible to bypass it making the screen stay bright.
although it would seem more likely that the brightness could be adjusted on the unit settings or by a button on the unit itself

1 st Check and see if you have power coming out the power plug.
2nd. Ckeck and see if the fuse is ok in the unit.
3rd Check and see if your cig ligter works in your power outlet.

This denotes a problem with the power supply for the unit. This may be as simple as removing the power board and replacing it or as complex as repairing the board itself. Repairing the board would be the cheaper option, but In either case I would suggest that you let a qualified TV technician perform this task, due to the possibility of electrical shock hazards.

There is a 12" black ribbon cable that feeds from the mounting unit to the lcd. You can see it when you have the lcd fully open right in the center where the hing is. I am curently working on this problem myself. this is the second time I have had to take it out off the ceiling and disassemble the whole DVD. It seems to pinch it in half. Ive owned this for 5 years. Good Luck....

If you purchased an extended service plan from Best Buy, then it's not voided just because they don't carry the product any more. Mobile electronics change yearly; almost nothing that was sold two years ago is still available. If your local store won't help you, contact the corporate offices at 1-888-Best Buy. They may not be able to replace the unit with the same model, but they are legally responsible for either repairing it or replacing it with something comparable.
