I am now using vista on a new computer, can I get this router working somehow? I can access the router through the ip address (or what ever that # is) do I need to change a setting.
I was origianaly using the router with my laptop (XP). Once I got my new computer (vista) I Installed the modem software on it then tried to install software for Belkin router, would not instal, website says NATIVE something.
I’ve bought a new laptop with Windows Vista installed on it.
It doesn’t see my wireless router as an available network. My old laptop sees it and connects with no problem, but the new one doesn’t see the available network.
The new laptop sees a neighbour’s network on low strength. I brought it in to work yesterday and it could see 3 Networks available here.
What can I do to make it see my router?

After connecting my vista machine to the router (wired) I can see my other computers on the network, but the vista machine will not see the internet connection. I borrowed another router (linksys) and the vista machine worked fine. I'd really like to keep my belkin if at all possible, can anyone help? These protocols are standardized and you don' t need to install anything on your Vista computer to access a LAN, whether it be wired or wireless... I suggest the a user NEVER install router software on any computer, let alone Vista..
If you can access the router config page via the DG (Default Gateway IP Address) then you are connecting to the LAN and should be able to connect to the WAN (internet).. Check your IP settings and make sure that you have a good DNS server address, as if you do not, then you won't be able to resolve friendly web names to the proper IP Addresses...

the easiest way to find the IP address of your access point is to utilize the TRACRT function in command prompt.
Open a command prompt window, (XP-run>cmd vista/windows7-find>cmd
in the command prompt window, type tracert (random address ex. www.google.com)
so in the case of www.google.com, the command would be "tracert www.google.com" (no quotes)
the computer will then send a packet to google.com, but list the paths to it, you should only be really interested in the first couple addresses.
The first IP address will be your computers, if your computer goes through a switch before the router, the second address will be that of the switch, the third will then be the routers IP address
If your computer goes directly into the router, the second anddress on the list will be the router's IP address.
type the given address into your favorite browser and the router config page should be displayed.
Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link. http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.15.1 or http://192.168.2.1 If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it. Then it ask for user name and password. Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank. Then you can see configuration page of router. If you are still not able to access router with above ip then you need to RESET it for that press RESET button for 10 seconds it is in back side of router then all settings defaults..Then you can access it with above method. . Then click on wireless->wireless security->WEP security there is code password note down it or enter new password then save setting s and restart router. then you can connect wireless with new password. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.
I can recomend to your network setup is WPS54GU2 Wireless-G PrintServer for USB 2.0********************************Before configuring the wireless settings of the printserver, make sure to know the following settings on your D-link router: SSID, and wireless security. Configuring the Wireless Settings on the Printserver The wireless settings of the printserver can be configured using its web-based utility. Make sure the printserver is set to a static IP on the network. NOTE: Make sure the printserver is already working when hardwired to the Dlink router before attempting to use it wirelessly on your network. Step 1: Access the printserver’s web-based setup page. Open a web-browser such as Internet Explorer. NOTE: If you're using Mac, use Safari to access the printserver's web-based setup page. Step 2: Go to the address bar and enter the IP address you've assigned to the PrintServer. NOTE: To assign the PrintServer a static IP address, click here. Step 3: When the printserver setup page appears, click Wireless.
1.can i use my 2wire 1800hg with vista?hooked up to ethernet connection.- yes its possible make sure you enable dhcp on your lan side of you router and under tcp/ip on your pc set it to authomatic assign IP address and dns server address. most router use 192.168.1.1 as thier default address to access it.
to fix your passkey problem.need to access the router and try to change the passkey then save and don't forget to restart the router after you save it,by unplugging it. "make sure your passkey is 8 characters long"
Try resetting your IP address: The laptop may be trying to use the IP address from the old router.
1) Click Start (assuming Windows 2000, XP, or Vista) 2) Click Run 3) Type in CMD This will take you to a black command box 4) Type in: ipconfig/release The chart should show your IP address as 0.0.0.0 Once this has happened, proceed to step 5 5) Type in: ipconfig/renew You should now see a new IP address listed.
Also note that you need to set up your network key (assuming that you are using one) on both the router and laptop. Make sure that your router is set up to perform as DHCP server.
If using DHCP, reboot your machine or release and renew the IP on the network card.
If using static IP addresses, change the computer's IP address to match the new segment and remove the old default gateway and replace with the new LAN IP.
Please see the related article on assigning a static IP address behind the router. If you still can not access websites, please try changing the static IP address you're using. For example if you're using the address 192.168.1.2, try 192.168.1.200. If that does not work please try the same static IP address on a different computer to see if it can use the information. If it can please try reinstalling your network card.
If that doesn't work please contact Linksys Technical Support.
