Canon EOS 630 Will not power up

I've had this camera for a while now and it just stopped working. I thought it might be a battery, so I replaced it, still will not power up, Any help would be great!

Well.. the EOS 630 is a really old camera.. they don't last forever.

First thing I would recommend... test the new battery with a volt meter or battery tester, just to make sure it didn't die on the shelf. Or try another one, just to be sure.

Next, check the battery contacts, preferably under a magnifier. You could have corrosion, or a bent contact, that might be preventing contact with the battery.

Assuming none of those work, you have a more complex problem. It certainly might be fixable, but you'd want a good repair tech to take a look at it. However, that's probably a bad idea.. they charge by the hour for actual repairs. You can find a working EOS 630 on eBay these days for under $30, sometimes with accessories. I wouldn't spend much money trying to fix this, but a few checks around the battery area are a good idea.

Hi, Sounds like the battery is quite old which means its probably stopped being able to hold a charge which would cause the problems you've described. The solution would be to buy a new battery.

I have a Canon EOS 630, 35-135 ultrasonic lens and a 300EZ canon flash. I want to get the new Rebel T2i and was wondering if I can use my old flash and lens and have all the TTL and auto focusing features...

Different technology between your film camera and the digital era The flash won't synchronize properly with the new digital you will need an EX type flash the 35-135 will work but because the digital has a focal factor of 1.6 compared to your 35-135 it will become a 56-216mm. Keep your EOS 630 as a back up to the digital.

My canon eos 30d turns off after taking only one picture. i have three charged batteries that i have tried, so i dont think it is the battery. any suggestions?

In your set up menu there is a function that will allow the camera to auto power off. Normally this has several setting from a few seconds to several minutes. My first thought is that this has been altered and the camera has been set to power off in a few seconds.

I can help you fix the BUSY Error or Error 99 of your Canon EOS Rebel XS / Canon EOS 1000D.

Installation of this Canon EOS Rebel XS / Canon EOS 1000D firmware version 1.06 update will solve these problems:
  1. Some cameras may exhibit a phenomenon in which the LCD monitor does not display, the shutter does not release, and the BUSY indication remains lit in the viewfinder.
  2. The message, "Err 99 Shooting is not possible. Turn the power switch to<OFF> and <ON> again or re-install the battery", appears on the camera's LCD monitor, and after the above operation is carried out,the LCD monitor displays in a language that is different from the actual language setting.
See the firmware instructions and download the firmware upgrade by following these Fixya Tips :

  1. Follow this link to download a pdf version of the firmware installation instruction guide.
  2. Follow this link to download the Windows Version of the Canon EOS Rebel XS / Canon EOS 1000D firmware version 1.06 update.
