The laser tracking has gone bad...have you tried doing a lens cleaning? try to use a cd lens cleaner if it will help. A good technician might be able re-calibrate the laser tracking error.

Why player won't recognise disc

Several things can cause a disk not to read. You could have a bad disc, the wrong type of disc, the disc might not be finalized, the laser pickup could be dirty Try cleaning with a disk cleaner Other problems include bad or weak lasers the spindle motor could be bad ,the disk in detect switch could be dirty. The disk may not be loading into the proper position. These are the more common problems

Brake override Jensen vm9212

Are they "burned" DVDs? The brake override will only allow video to come through the screen it won't make the unit not read them.

Jensen vm 9410

some of the newer dvd's are made double layer and recently they've been working on triple layer dvd's. basically a single layer dvd holds 5gb of information, a dual can hold 10gb and a triple can hold 15gb (those are approximates). by making it more layers, they can put the fullscreen and the widescreen edition on the same movie disc. some of the 'lower end' dvd players don't have the capabilities to play these dual or triple layer discs.

Bad disk

Wow! That's a first. I used to sell both the Jensen AND Phase Linear versions and never a problem. It sounds like a bad unit. You say it plays NOTHING? No CD's OR DVD's that are the factor made?
The only thing I hav up my sleeve is to do a reset on the unit. If it has a button (I don't think it does frm what I remember) use it first, then with the unit ON, unplug the poer plug, wait a few, then plug back in and see.

Sorry I have no more tricks foir that,

DVD PLAYER

Hope it was the non-acetone type of polish remover - acetone will melt plastic !!

Invest in a laser eye cleaning disk - the kind with the tiny brushes.

OK what type of file format are the files in on the disk you are tying to play?

IDM-1731 does not like .AVIs.

Check your documentation as to what type of files your player can actually read and play.

Sorry I'm not more help.
