I bought P5QL PRO, after i saw sound doesnt work i bought P5Q SE motherboard and the result is the same. Everything was ok. On web i found some articles that HD SOUND on ASUS (p5q series) doesnt work or something. I tried on fiew pc-s it just doesnt work. Pls help (drivers were ok, speakers were ok, operative system (xp sp3 professional) shows everything was fine. Only thing is when i look in device menager, it shows "no audio device found" when i try to update driver or something. Tryed it on XP SP1, XP SP2, XP SP3, VISTA, WIN 7. (all 32-bit) I tryed even install 64-bit audio drivers and it didnt help. If any can help, pls, u will save a lot of money and nerves i lost trying to fix it. Thx

There's only really two things you can try.

One, check first into the BIOS and make sure that the integrated sound is enabled.

Next, check to see if your video card, if it is PCI express, because it sometimes has their own sound.

If you have done these two things, then perform an ASUS update to the BIOS. Perhaps the BIOS is flaky.

If this doesn't work and you have checked everything else, then you'll need to contact ASUS directly about the motherboard issue.

I cant get chassis sound working on my asus p5ql pro motherboard, win 7 wont recognise the headphone attatch and there is no override

Disconnect all external devices. Start unit and check your device manager for Yellow or Red marks or flags or the phase unknown devices and remove them.
Reboot your unit.
Allow it to load completely and again check your device manager.
Plug in your device and allow the unit to load drivers.
If you still have conflicts or problems, go to ASUS.com for correct drivers for win7

ASUS P5QL PRO memory problem

This problem occurs because of confliction between RAM memory frequency.
For that you must have 2 RAM with same memory frequency and same company chip .
Then it works fine with 2 RAM.
Let me know if you need further assistance.
Thanks.

Specify a suitable board for intel quad core 2.66

Obviously the p5q-vm is a better mobo as it has a faster FSB and supports up to 16G of RAm vs 4G on the p5ql-cm.  If you are looking for a gaming PC then certainly the p5q-vm is the better choice.  With that said, you may also want to consider another video card.  While the 9600GT is a fantastic card, it will soon be on the bottom of the dogpile when it comes to gaming.
