Convergence Problem The overall picture is darker than usual a has a a blue offset duplicate image and a yellow duplicate offset image. It looks like a bad 3D moview without the glasses. The magic focus does not correct the problem and when attempting to correct the convergence manually, the grid lines all appear in white.

Hello... Rear Projection TVs are not easy to work on. That being said, color issues can be caused by several different things. The most common involves the CRTs (there are three small picture tubes). There is a fluid in each tube that over time can dis-color, and involves a very difficult procedure to fix. Next, there are convergence circuits for each CRT, and one or more can fail. This will not usually cause the symptom you are describing, it will usually cause a double image in some or all areas of the screen and some areas the colors will look fine while other areas will not. It could also be a bad CRT drive board, or the video processing IC. It could even be the high voltage splitter! If I were you, I'd consider a new TV (please get the extended warranty). I hope this helps...
If the coolant is cloudy or has debris floating in it, the
coolant will have to be changed and the lenses and crt face will need to be cleaned.
Coolant can be ordered from any electronic distributer
Your convergence has failed and needs to be repaired. Once quick test is to goto your convergence menu and see if you can adjust red and blue. If not its has failed and needs to be fixed. You can call in a repair shop or you can get the parts and instructions from www.TvRepairKits.com and do the repair yourself. Its a fairly easy DIY fix.
If the picture is 3d looking in some way----it is a convergence problem; many of these sets have "magic focus" and if it will not correct the problem the two convergence chips need to be replaced---this model should use either STK-392-110 OR -150 CHIPS.
This can be a do it yourself repair if you have some skill and total parts cost on Ebay would be under 25 dollars.
Let me know your skill level here and I will instruct you how to do the fix.
sounds like 1 of the convergence chips are gone theres 2 of them and better off replacing both as the other would just go a month down the line there might also be a resister or 2 gone, the price for that kind of job is around 150 +vat.
