Sounds like only the constant(yellow) wire has power. you need to make sure that the switched wire(red) has power as well. good way to trouble shoot, is to hook the red to the yellow to see if it powers up then, if so you know the radio is ok, you just need to find a better power source for the red wire. hope this helps.

Installing KD-HDR20 and I get a red power light but nothing works

I have had the same issue and I tried until I found the problem.
1) I had no power to my remote wire.
(The wire that only allows the radio to work when the care ignition is on.)
2) The radio has a fuse or maybe two.
But the auto mobile may have blown its fuse.
In my case it was the remote fuse.
3) I have had a bad ground and only need to find a good place.
4) I have even found insufficient power to my radio because too many devices were also using that power.
5) Heck I have even forgot to start the care or at least turn the ignition.
6) My battery was so dead it couldnt even power my radio.

CD Player

I had the same problem on this stereo(disconnected the battery and then the cd wouldn't come out). Press and hold the "On/Att" power button and the "SEL" button at the same time for a few seconds. It will reset the unit and spit out the cd (but all your presets will be gone).
