I am using the trial version of acronis 2009 home. I have windows xp home on a Compaq pc and another computer with Vista premium. With vista I have no problems restoring an image. With xp home I can not restore the image. The xp computer came with software installed and no disk. I made a boot disk using acronis and it will not load. Please help. Thanks
What I meant was that there was no windows installation disk that came with the computer. It is stored in it's own partition. What I meant was that there was no windows installation disk that came with the computer. It is stored in it's own partition.

For the past few upgrade cycles I have upgraded by purchasing the best value new computers with the OS installed. I connect the old computers to the new via a home network. The newest has Win-7 and is much faster, however, the learning curve is steep getting all the old stuff to work. So for some stuff I still rely on the older machine. This has given me the best results.I still use Vista and XP, but if you feel compelled to upgrade do to security reason I would follow the following outline.
Back up on an external USB drive all important documents. You must do this if not Murphy's rules will apply and it can be a train wreck!!
Down load Acronis from Western Digital website. Make a Boot disk.
Create a clone copy of your master C:/ drive on an external USB drive.
Purchase a same or larger internal PC master C: drive "It must be a Western Digital for the free version of Acronis to work"
Replace current drive with new.
Using Acronis boot disk boot up and connect USB drive
Clone new drive from USB with vista OS using the Acronis boot disk and confirm all is well
You now have a way to go back. Your original drive still has the Vista OS with all your Junk and the new drive should have the same.
Using the new drive go to the Microsoft website and go for OS seven. Keep your clone copy of the vista OS on the USB drive in case the seven blows-up during install.
Retain the original C: drive with the vista OS in case you get into difficulty with the new drive.(mark the drive with date etc)
I have successfully done this for computers and keep a drive loaded with a known good OS for the day it all goes bad.
Sync-toy is the backup program that I use to keep everything up to date.

WIndows ME
Windows XP Home Edition
Windows XP Professional Edition
Windows Vista Home Basic Edition
Windows Vista Home Premium Edition
Windows Vista Business Edition
Windows Vista Enterprise Edition
Windows Vista Ultimate Edition
Windows 7 Starter
Windows 7 Home Basic
Windows 7 Home Premium
Windows 7 Professional
Windows 7 Enterprise
Windows 7 Ultimate
Windows Thin PC

If you are using windows with anything less than windows vista Home Premium or Windows Vista Ultimate, DVD capabilities are not built in. For example if you using windows XP or vista home basic DVD will not play. You need a decoder. You have a few options. 1. Buy a decoder pack. 2. Download a DVD player software like cyberlink trial version, install it and check how it is functioning for a few days. Buy and install a DVD player software. However, if you upgraded your compuer recently by adding a DVD drive, you may have recieved a Driver CD disk. Check that disk. check whether a trial version of any DVD player software is included. Most chances are there will be one. Once you got everything fine you can call the customer support for the DVD player software and if you are willing to pay, they will provided you with a key or serial number that will change the status of trial version to a fully working version.
you can upgrade from Windows XP to Windows Vista(ultimate, premium, home, business.......), you have to buy a Windows Vista CD and install a fresh copy or format.
Some Minimum Requirements:
i) Min 2GB RAM or atleast 1GB RAM(if you have>1GB RAM installation of Windows Vista will not continue)
II) External Graphic Card. for some versions of Windows Vista(to run Aero Interface, special feature only in some versions of Windows Vista)
NOTE:
"Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor" is a software from Microsoft which you can download from internet, this can help you determine which features and edition of Windows Vista will run on your computer.
i.e., when u load this software on windows xp it will suggest which upgrade version of windows vista will suit your system(based on you system configuration. or hardware components.) and then you can install the upgraded version of windows xp(mostly windows vista home,.........)
Maybe Nero 7 isn't compatible with Vista? Have you tried downloading other trial programs or any file from the Internet? If nero 7 is the only program you can download, try other versions e.g Nero 8 or later versions?
u might hav recovery disc run a poper recovery thru those this time there sholdu not be any device conneted to u computer not even the speakers and then let me know
