The motor works and sounds like it is impacting inside the case, but doesn't transfer power to the bit. It is stored on my work truck laying on it's side and is succeptable to some moistre and has some rust on the outside. was wondering if something was stuck inside and i could add some grease or lubrication to free it up?
Looks like the hm1500b
because you say you hear it impacting inside seems like the impact bolt (#10 on the diagram) got stuck prob from a bad (tool holder seal #9 on the diagram) or the impact bolt #10 is stuck in the impact bolt holder(#12 on the diagram).......it doesnt take much to open the front end (4 bolts) but when putting back i would use loctite...they do sell service kits for it..the parts diagram can be obtained at www.makita.com under service

It soulds like either the striker is stuck or the ram. Unless you are mechanically inclined I would recommend taking to a repair shop. If you are give me the exact model number and I will see if they make a repair kit and get you a schematic for this tool before you start dissassembly.

The compression spring is probably broken.
