I have a Kenmore Side by Side that I bought in 1995, recently the ice maker no longer makes ice, but the water dispenser still works, we changed the tubing, but that did not help, any suggestions?
Pour about 1/2 cup of water into ice maker . If it dumps , replace the water valve . If doesn't dump , replace the ice maker . Also make sure the coils are clean of dust , lint , etc...

this could be several items so will go down the list in order... 1st you need to make sure you have a good clean filter or that it has been changed recently... sometimes removed and reinstalled will also help... 2nd do you have 120 volts ac current to the water valve when called for water example" someone pushing the water dispenser handle while you test... if you have 120 volts and no water coming you have a bad water valve... if the dispenser is working but the ice maker is not filling with water they do have dual water valves and one side can actually be bad... before shooting the water valve down though if your getting water to the dispenser but not to ice maker make sure the unit is actually calling for water... on most of these ice makers there is a gear motor on the front part of ice maker there will be a white cover over the front of unit remove it and turn gear motor makes sure it is not broke.. is there frozen water in ice maker if so may be the heater on ice maker is bad... if no water again before shooting down water valve make sure the fill tube coming into ice maker is not froze up...if it is froze up most likely you have a weak water valve and needs to be replaced due to not seating properly.... hope this helps hard to diagnose when not sure what all you have already tested or not...
check fill tube in back to make sure no frozen ice obstructing water flow... also make sure you have a clean filter on unit or it has been changed recently.... there are normally dual water valves on these models... one will work dispenser and one will work ice maker make sure your getting water to ice maker itself... if you are indeed getting water it just will not dump most likely you have a broken gear motor orthe heater in the ice maker has failed.. get another ice maker ....
This problem is most likely the water control valve on rear of refrigerator. If your ice maker is empty pour tap water inside it and let it freeze. If it dumps the ice then the water control valve. If nothing happens the the thermostat inside the ice maker is defective. Thanks, Sea Breeze
Sounds like a water valve problem to me. Force the ice maker to cycle. (turn it off and let it get cold for at least an hour then turn it back on). Test for voltage on the ice maker side of the valve. The valve is usually in the back near the floor. Just follow the water line. Another solution. switch the wires on the water valve. then try the water dispenser and see if it makes the ice maker fill up. See if when the ice maker cycles water comes out the door. If the ice maker causes water in the door , replace the valve, If door switch causes ice maker to fill up replace ice maker again.
A couple things to check here. First see if there is ice in the tray. If so chances are the ice maker will need to be replaced however these are very reliable ice makers. If no ice in the tray pull up on the ejector blade (don't worry you won't break it) turn clockwise to start the ice maker thru a cycle. The ejector blade is the long white bar with fingers on it that run the length of the tray. Once it completes a cycle it should fill with water. If no water then either the fill tube is frozen over and will need to be defrosted or the water valve is bad.
