We have a kohler 12res backing up our off-grid solar array. The generator only had about 125-135 hours on it after being installed in 4/07.
The AC Breaker on the generator has been throwing itself after 5-20 minutes of running. The generator will start at the required minimum voltage or can be manually started, but will stop delivering its power because of the breaker, but will continue to run.
Neither the Outback inverter/converter nor the display on the generator is giving a reason for the problem.
The draw from the house is only 1.7-2.0 kwatts at most and the amount being put into the back-up batteries at 4.6 kwatts, for a maximum draw of 6.6 kwatts--not enough to be too large of a draw on the generator. I realize some start-up power requirements may be momentarily larger but the biggest item we have running is a split-unit AC which draws about 1.0 kwatts while running. All of the kick-offs have occurred while the AC is running, not starting up.
Could this be the breaker itself?
