Question about Dryers

1 Answer

My ceiling fans stops after being on for 4 to 5 hours. Power is still on. I turn power off and back on and it runs again. Could this be the capacitor going bad?

Most motors use a start capacitor to create phase shift to get motor turning. So i would think once in motion it will continue to turn.
Now having said that what keeps fan turning! The system relies on electromagnets which pull the motor into next section ( think of a cut pie with separation between slices).
So what can cause this sequence to stop.
1. You have a quick loss of power.
2. You have a motor thermocouple (prevents burn out at a raised temperature)
since it restarts, although you mentioned after 4-5 hours of running, there was no mention how long it sat off. I would think this is not problem.
Power loss! Do lights flicker when AC comes on?
is the on off switch a pull chain or wall-switch?
If a flicker then power might be interrupted just as the fan motor has rotated in to pie slice dead zone. Which means slim that all flickers would effect, but could.
A wall switch can build up resistance or have poor contacts that by way of vibration lose power for a split second.
Remember cap.is used to start, so follow the path for quick power loss.
Also check connections at fan to wiring, a loose connection can open due to vibration, then settle down when off

SOURCE: Ceiling fan stopped working

two of my four Hunter fans/lights have quit working. I have tried both the remote control and the pull cords but no luck. Is there some way I can verify if the two units are getting power?

Harbor Breeze ceiling fans are cheap. I would suggest replacing it with a Hunter or a Casablanca.

SOURCE: Power went out and now ceiling fan won't work

Before you try all of that try the on/off switch, I tried holding down the light switch on the remote and turning the on/off back and forth several times and then the light came on... it is very tricky, but I knew my battery was good, and the fan worked before the power went out and the dip switches did not need reset or changed. I tried many different combinations so I am not sure what tripped it up, but try that before changing anything or pulling the fan cover off. Best of Luck

My harbor breeze ceiling wont turn on.

  • Disconnect power at the source, not at the fan
  • Remove battery from remote. Press all buttons, then reinstall battery
  • Restore power. Using ONLY the remote, test operation
  • If the fan still does not work, disconnect power again and try every known combination of remote buttons and switch settings until the fan works or you give up in frustration.

Outside unit will only run for a short amount of time with A/C before the fan stops turning and starts humming, squealing/screeching and the top of the outside unit gets hot.

The bearings are bad in the motor and after the fan runs enough it eventually gets hot, making the bearing screech and the fan locks up. Need to replace motor again. See if it has a warranty. The reason it gets hot is because the fan is what removes the heat from the coil and if the fan isn't running there is nothing to cool it off so to speak.

Blinkin light

Turn the main power to the unit off, leave off for about 20 seconds then turn back on. Unit should restart. The blinking light is a fault light that can be reset by turning main power off. Most times it will restart no problems but if the fault re occurs there is a problem with the unit itself. If the fan starts and runs for around 4 minutes on cooling mode then stops and blinks there is a problem with the outdoor unit.

Ideas? Yep. Shut down fan power at the source (fuse, breaker, etc.). Turn on fan power again. You should be back in operation

Question about light bulb problem in ceiling fan

Check wiring @ ceiling. Should b a black, white, green & red wire coming frm fan. Green is ground. Black & Red is power. White is neutral. Black provides power to fan, red provides lat power 4 lights. Remove light assembly, blue wire provides power. B sure 2 turn off power 2 fan b 4 working on it w/switch & breaker. Maybe lose wire connection or pinched wire grounding out. Fans require vibration proof bulbs regular bulb elements will break after short time use. Fan bulbs have larger filiments inside bulb.

Fan is Erratic

Ceiling fans with wireless remote controls have an electronic receiver installed in the fan, which controls the light, dimming, and fan speed. Sometimes the receiver goes bad and needs to be replaced. If you have had any power outages or power surges, they may have fried the receiver. I've noticed that my ceiling fan light turns on when the power is restored after a power outage. Now, whenever my power goes out, I shut off the light switch that powers my ceiling fan so It doesn't experience a surge to to the controller when the power comes back on. I've purchased new receivers on eBay and Amazon to replace my blown remotes and receivers.

Ceiling fan stopped working after power spike blew the breaker. I reset the breaker and all else in the room came on but not fan. Does it have an internal reset?

If you own a Hunter Original, there is no reset button, but MANY people that have a remote control added (includng me) have , once power has been restored, found that the chain was pulled by someone and it got into the off position, rather than the slow, medium or high setting. With the circuit hot, pull the chain one more time and try to turn on your fan with the remote again.
Hope this helps.

Projector shuts off after about 45 minutes

Just a long shot, but...

I have an epson 9000i that did the same thing. Turns out that unit has a small fan (I think 60mm) right next to the power supply to keep it cool, in addition to the large fan that exhausts past the lamp. The fan runs non-stop as long as the unit is powered-up for two reasons I can think of - keep the power supply a little cooler, and the lamp a little warmer so there's not such a temp difference when it powers-up. Long story short, that fan had died. I replaced it with an aftermarket 60mm fan and it's been working fine ever since. Hope this helps.
