The drain hole in the drip pan, near the rear of the unit is clogged and/or the rear of the unit does not have enough downward tilt. The general rule of thumb for rear downward tilt is 1/4" to 1/2". The downward tilt causes the water to flow to the rear of the drain pan and out thru the drain hole. A clogged drain hole can be hard to find, sometimes. As the clog will blend in with the hole. Patience & persiistence are the key to located it. A piper cleaner works well to clear the clog, once the drain hole is located. Before attempting any service on the unit, turn it OFF & unplug it.
Hope I was able to help you troubleshoot & solve the problem. Thanks for choosing FixYa.
Most wall units and window units have a weep hole in the back in order for them to drain. I would suggest finding this weep hole and making sure that it is not clogged up. The problem can also be that the unit is tilted to far forward and needs to be tilted toward the outside.
The A/C unit should be tilted slightly to the rear and this will allow the water to leak to the outside of the window, you may have to drill a small hole in the case to drain if there is no pre-existing hole.
Remove the ac unit from it`s shell, and take it outside and wash it out with the water hose, remove all debris from inside the unit, and the bottom of the inside of the unit, when replacing it back in the home, make sure there is enough tilt to the unit to get the unit to drain outside, not in,if this was at all helpful, please rate, thank you.
Water should come out of the back of a wind unit when it is humid out, usually a drain hole. If water is leaking inside from a window unit, check that the outside drail hole is not clogged or maybe it is not tilted downward enough outside (Usually a very slight tilt down toward the outside to help the water drasin out the back outside). Also, if you have excess water forming, you may need to clean the coil. For central air units water should be drippng outside the home via a pipe or tubing and if the drain tube or pipe is clogged with scum that forms inside the pipe water will back up and overflow in the house near the heater/air conditioning unit. Also, some units have a pump to pump the water out and it may not be working.
Should have a drain hole on back to drain outside it maybe pluged or unit is not leveled to outside has to have a slight tilt for water to drain out not in.
all air conditioners condense water .. the water is normally drained to the outside thru a hole near the outside bottom of the unit .. the unit has to be mounted so that it doesnt tilt inward .. the drain hole has to be cleaned once in a while ... if its clogged or if the unit is tilted inward then the water will drain inside the house .. less likely but possible is a cracked or damaged drip pan inside the unit ... thats a shallow pan under the condenser (cold) coil that captures the water and directs it toward the outside drain .. so check the tilt and clean the drain
