Whirlpool dishwasher model du915 built-in problem

There's a strange sound when the unit is on. Took apart everything inside the unit (pump, etc) down to the metal shaft from the motor. Below the pump is a metal strainer and below that appears to be a metal "chopper" blade that rotates directly against and below the "strainer." Am wondering if there should be a teflon or some other sort of washer between these two parts to prevent the metal-to-metal rotational rubbing that seems to be making the noise?

Hi,
I've had a look at the Whirlpool site for detailed information for you, but they seem to want you to buy a pump assembly complete. Not very helpful.
If you type your exact model number they may come up with a spares kit -
Whirlpool Sapres Department - http://www.4whirlpool.co.uk/cgi-bin/search.pl?query=pump&pg=9&brand=&model=&part=

There is usually a slight gap in this mincer arrangement. It could be that the "strainer" has become detatched from it's intended fixed position. If this is the case. Try heat from a soldering iron to bond it to it's fixing, or an epoxy adhesive as a last resort before purchase of a new pump assembly.

If there is room for a small spring on the output shaft, this may also keep it at the correct distance.

Sorry I could not identify the exact part for you.

Water is not draining from my dishwasher.and when i turn it on its making a strange humming sound.,

I have attached a breakdown of the pump and motor area of the dishwasher. You may have gotten something stuck in around the impeller area, a piece of broken glass or bread tag etc. If nothing is visibly caught in there and the hum continues, you may need a new pump and motor assembly. You would need a service technician to verify this.250

Whirlpool Dishwasher (DU800CWDB1)does not drain. Have taken everything apart, cleaned, tested.. same problem.

If you have cleaned the pump and outlet hose and it still wont work, Have you checked that the drain it is connected to is not pluged up ? Is the motor running during the time it should be draining out ? The way they work is one direction for wash and reversing for pumping out.

Whirlpool dishwasher top spinner and top rack spinner is not putting out water or very little and not spinning. I have taken apart and cleaned everything including the sump / chopper, can't find any...

First, confirm that the holes are not blocked on these arms. (I did not want to assume you have done this.)

Then check the impeller on top of the motor stem for being loose or worn/damaged - to rule the impeller out. If it is fine, then the motor is failing and too weak to drive the spray arms.
To answer your question, I think the answer is "They don't make them like they used too!"

You're going to have to take the unit apart and clean the build-up again. Since you have hard water, it's recommeded that you use tablets instead of gel or liquid detergent. If you get a water softener, you'll have to use liquid. Good luck and sorry to hear about the hard water. I have the same thing here and it's no fun. Good luck :)

Maytag dishwasher mdb9600awb - loud pump

This has happened a few times to me as well.(VERY VERY LOUD NOISE AT THE BOTTOM)I have the same model It did stop.I did a little reading and came to the conclusion that it was the built in food disposer chopping blades were chopping up something like a cherry pit or peach pit and once an end of a wooden spoon that dropped down.If you look at your USE and care Guide on page 12 under trouble shooting "Dishwasher seems noisy"..I went through the same thing taking things apart. Its got to be it. Mine is 2 1/2 years as well. Hope this helps. [email protected]
