Hi

It sounds like the hard drive in the unit is either faulty or the contents are corrupt, You can either contact archos and send the unit to them for repair or you can try reinstalling the firmware into it yourself.

1 go to Archos website and download latest firmware and save on your pc

2 turn it on and select repair - unit not connected to pc

3 connect it to pc and wait until pc recognises it

4 copy firmware from pc and paste it to the root directory. (first directory, the root)

5 press done on the unit.

it should work normally. If it doesn't its very likely a faulty hard drive.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Try and reset your archos 704 by pressing the power ON/OFF button for more than 15 seconds. You can also use the master reset function by removing the battery & then press the master reset button.

I HAVE A ARCHOS 704 WIFI IT POWERS ON BUT ALL I - a6b0398.jpg
Note: Resetting your Archos will not erase any data from your device.

Also try Recovery mode-- Press the button to turn on your device. Immediately press and hold the until the Recovery mode screen appears.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

    If you have already tried everything then the possible way to remove the error is getting this repaired/replaced by a auth. repair center so to avoid future issues.

Archos 704 stopped working

Hi,

A couple of things you can try:
  1. hard reset the 704 using the button under the battery right hand side;
  2. reformat the unit (but that would of course delete contents).
Just curious, did you try/did a firmware update recently? Additionally, the manual has some details on troubleshooting as well as Archos online support.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

My archos 704 just got back from the repair shop and will NOT connect to any of my computers..

When ARCHOS is displayed on the screen, immediately press and hold the TV/LCD button until the Recovery mode starts (white screen), without pressing any buttons connect the USB cable your computer should detect it. If it does it may mean that the software is corrupt. while in recovery mode select repair disk. You could also try reinstalling the firmware.

Cannot play any movies

Hi,

A couple of procedures you can try:
1. Do a soft reset. Press on the power button for about 15 seconds;
2. Do a full/hard reset by removing the batteries and pressing the master reset button;
3. Do a Systems Recovery by powering on and immediately press/hold the TV button till Recovery Mode is displayed. Follow on screen instruction of Forcing Touch Screen Calibration. You may need also to format the internal HD but that would mean you loose whatever data is inside.

If the above is not corrective, it is possible that as you posted it may be a hardware issue. Some users have reported serious hardware or firmware problems with the 704 that would require replacement by the manufacturer.

Hope that this be of help/idea. Pls post back how things turned out or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
