First try different headphones. If its still bad try the same MP3 files on another player, if its still bad its a problem with the way the files were recorded. If fine on other player, take batteries out of Proline for at least 3 minutes and try again. If still bad you can either replace it or get it repaired, its far cheaper to replace it. A used 2gb player is cheaper than a bus ticket.

If you click my user name you will find a tip about headphones and plug problems. HOWEVER first check it's not the device socket that is faulty, by trying a different pair of headphones.

Black is ground

Red is right channel

Blue is left channel

The wires are probably enamelled so scrape the ends a little with a scalpel before you solder to get a good connection.

Proline parts are very difficut to find and they were on sale at Comet.co.uk you could try their customer services but given that Proline are a budget make their spares are hard to find. I know since I had a Proline coffee maker and had to buy another one off EBay when my jug smashed.

Every Garmin Nuvi unit I've seen has a (loud) built-in speaker. The only demand our 250s and 265 make of the vehicle is a 12V power supply (and they'll even work without that for a while, until the battery goes flat).
