Which Maps Are Loaded?

How old is the unit, more than 2 years? has the battery been run dead more very often? If so it may need a new battery, if this is the case it must be sent back to Garmin, the battery is hardwired into the unit and not consumer replaceable.

The internal battery, that only Garmin can change. It would cost $125 just to send the unit in if it needed work outside of the warranty period.....hopefully the battery will last about five years.If you get it replaced from Garmin. Garmin has released new maps. Most of their units are entitled to a free update if the unit was purchased recently Just a heads up to anyone who recently purchased a C330. According to Garmin's tech support, the map udate 2008 is not free to those of us that recently purchased a C330. Only to those who purchased a C340 and up. Their excuse is that it is a "low end" unit, and also that the memory cannot hold the full US maps on the DVD. Gee, I can purchase the update for $69.99 and load a subset of the maps if I want, according to the person in tech support, but I cannot receive it as a free update. So, apparently buyer beware if you purchase Garmin's "low end" units. You will apparently not be able to receive a free update of maps, even if the unit you buy is already out of date.

I think this one is a return to seller or send to Garmin.

I had the same exact problem about three years ago when mine was new. I sent it back to Garmin and it took some convincing on my part to get them to replace the mount and cable for the car. The first time I sent it back they only wanted the unit back, not the mount. Same problem when i tried the replacement unit. I called service again and told them that I was sure it was in the cable from the cig. lighter socket and that I was going to send the whole system back. They said ok and when I received it back from Garmin the second time I had anew mount and it has been fine since. By woodtick

Hello, I have had 7 Garmin units and 4 of them where streetpilots like yours.
You can try a reset of the unit. This will restore the unit and you might loose any favorites etc that you have stored. Here's how you do a reset.
"With the unit off, place your thumbnail in the groove located under the Garmin logo on the face plate, gently pull off the face place. Press the reset button and turn the unit back on."
Try this and see how the unit works. If it still gives you the same problem then your unit needs repair. I have sent in at least 2 units to Garmin for repair in the last 2 years.

You need to use Garmin POI loader to input custom POI. After loading POI's they will show up in "My Favorite" under "Custom POI"

Garmin puts out map updates on a regular basis. You must purchase these. The GPS comes loaded with maps that are current as of the date of production of the unit. It cannot "know" when new roads are paved and new subdivision are created without being "told" via map updates. The unit knows where it is in relation to the maps loaded on it by receiving signals from the GPS satellites in orbit. If things change, the maps must be changed in order for the unit to give you correct directions.
