I just bought the exact same model this weekend that I found used in the classifieds. The person who sold it to me said it worked, but when I got it home and hooked it up, it did exactly what yours did, even with no laundry in it. It would get to the spin cycle and start banging around violently like it had a brick in it. I even used an electronic level to make sure it wasn't uneven on the floor. From doing a little research on the web, i read that the suspension could have gone faulty. I took it out and set it up in my garage and hooked a hose up to the cold to see it run a small cold water load with the back panel off so I could observe what was going on inside. From what I observed, the suspension springs were sprung and some worse than the others. I am going to order a replacement set from Sears tomorrow and replace them to see if the unbalanced problem goes away. Removing them is a cinch and should take about a half hour to do all four and put everything back together. I will let you know if my unbalance problem goes away.

I found the tub suspension kit listed on eBay for under $25 new before shipping (half the price Sears is offering it for). The kit can be found by searching the part number W10189077. I will receive mine tomorrow and install them. I will post the results.

Did replacing the suspension rods solve the violent shaking during spin?

I had the same issue on my Cabrio WTW6400SW2. Except I also had an OL error while it ran through a wash cycle. Essentially it would fill with water and the get an OL error. I had three pieces of clothing and would still get an OL and it would drain and end cycle early. So i would then put it on drain and spin to wring water out of the four pieces and it would be fine at low rpm then it would kick up speed and it would start banging around and then UL error. My OL error was caused by gunk and corrosion on the impeller shaft and inner basket bushing being seized together and not allowing the inner basket to float as water filled the tub. so i dismantled the machine. I had the most trouble getting the impeller nd inner basket out. I spent an hour trying to pull it straight up and out by hand. I had to take the machine completely apart down to the outer bare outer tub. I then tied a ratcheting strap rated for 500 lbs around the inner basket and hung the assembly on my engine lift outside. I then plugged the outer plastic tub holes with rags and filled halfway with water. I had some help in lifting this up and the dropping it to let weight of water to yank out inner basket. 45 mins later it finally popped off shaft. The shaft was heavily corroded and had other crud on it causing it to seize. Cleaned shaft and bushing on inner basket and all was well until it came down to spin cycle, UL error. Even when washer was empty it banged around once rpm increased. I replaced the suspension with new version of suspension that comes with plastic sockets that attack to washer then the balls seat in socket without the need for grease. This fixed my UL error and now I have a functioning washer. My recommendation is to do maintenance on washer yearly and run cleaning cycle monthly to wash away any dirt or grime that eventually scales up on outside of stainless steel inner basket and on shaft. Maintenance should at least consist of removing impeller and inner basket to clean and check shaft as well as clean lint trap which is below inner basket.

My washer is leval but continues to display ul code when spin cycle starts

UL does not mean the washing machine unit itself is unlevel, it means the load cannot be balance, possibly washing too small a load that the machine cannot distribute in drum evenly ( happens alot when only one or two items being washed), could be poor pump out (check filters if accessible) the machine tries to start spin with excess water or maybe it is a mixed load, lots of small items and maybe one or two large items that hinder the distribution. My machine is very temperamental when I do the sheets, because they get tangled during the wash part of the cycle and then the machine cannot get them balanced to spin. I sometime have to manual move the item about and then put it to the spin only cycle.Hope this helps

Spin vefy fast

A rapid spin cycle is actually a GOOD thing. This is an indication that the gearcase (transmission) and the drive motor are both running strong.

If the washer shudders during the spin cycle the first thing you need to do is check to ensure the washer is properly leveled. The following link explains:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3868923-level_whirlpool_top_loading_washer

The model Whirlpool top loader you have, has an auto-leveler mechanism on the back two legs that can become unlevel periodicailly. You should check the washer level from time to time when it is empty. You need to also make sure the washer is level in ALL directions (front-to-back and side-to-side).

Accidental unbalance problems that can occur from washing blankets, comforters, or heavy loads of towels can also cause the washer to become unlevel and shake. This can also contribute to the level mechanism becoming unbalanced.

Overloading the washer can also cause unbalance problems. Washing blankets or conforters can cause the load weight to shift to one side of the tub. This will result in a tub that shakes violently and bangs against the cabinet. You may have to redistribute the load weight when washing heavy items. This can also occur when washing loads of towels. This is NORMAL as some heavy items do not distribute the weight evenly.

Another problem (which is less common) that can contribute to wash unbalance problems is a weak floor under the washer. If the floor flexes (even the slightest) during the spin cycle, it can cause the washer to bounce or shake. Mobile homes or laundry rooms on the second floor of a home are notorious for having weaker floor structures. This washer has a 35 gallon tub capacity. Coupled with the weight of a wet load and the spinning action, this can put a lot of centrifugal force on a floor.

If you have any questions or concerns, please post back and let me know. I hope this information is helpful to you.

What causes Cabrio washer to get unbalanced in spin cycle?

Try making sure that your draining hose isnt jammed all the way down the hole. When you installed it the u shaped accessory was needed for the draining hose. Try pulling the draining hose out...curve the front and zip tying it to your cold water valve. This will allow it to drain properly and not get water push back into the drum causing it to be unlevel
