My LG DVD recorder RH266 wont play a DVD I bought out of a shop. Its making a sound trying to load and then shoots out the DVD saying not recognised - check disc. The DVD plays on other DVD players in the house and other DVD's play in the machine. Any ideas whats happening

Sorry to say no it wont not unless the Tv set manuel says it has a Duel Freeview feed , you have to get another freeview box for the recorder .
besides If you used the freview in the tv 1 , the tv would have to be on when you wanted to record ?. and 2 you couldnt watch another channel whilst recording another .. only 1 tuner ?. also you could only record the program you had on .at the time no timer facility .
People are still used to the Old system of VHs and the fact that all videos had tuners built in so you could watch and record .. It will come and indeed some more modern DVD recorder have freeview built in again sorry but thats the facts , and dont forget if you want the pay per view channels on free view your going to need a tuner with a pay card port ... All dvds recorded on a diffrent player have to be finalised before they will play on a diffrent machine I think that you should find the finalise command in your menu ... hope this helps Reagrds Vortash
fitted a new drive in but it wont play normal dvds.
it recognises +- discs and formats them as it should
just need to work out how to make it play normal dvds.
dont want to pay for advise thanks
Hi .. It sounds like the problem you have is incompatabilty I assume that you haven tried Phono connections instead of scart , as this sometimes cures this problem .. or when purcahsing a scart look for the Miirrored type this means that the inputs and outputs are reversed this also sometimes cures the problem as some scarts put output to output and input to input ect when actually it should be output from tv to input dvd and so on ie wrong scart and there are a few of the cheaper type that have this problem .. if you have no luck using the phono let me know .. Regards Vortash
If the DVD is copy right protected then it won't record. By this I mean, you can't simply rent a DVD at Blockbuster and transfer it to the Hard Drive (use a computer to do this instead). Try using a DVD that is not protected, like a home video or a cd with MP3s
After transfering video from HD to DVD, before you press the "Menu" button. please make sure you you press "DVD" button on your remote to tell the machine you want the menu for "DVD" first.
Just bought unit. Had same problem.Tried lots of different types of disks with no luck. Tried to play already written +R disk. Worked OK. Then took out and replaced with blank -R. Came up with new screen asking me if I wanted to initialize disk. Answered yes and it took about 20 seconds. Then tried to DUB from HDD to DVD again. This time it came up with the dubbing menu, I hadn't seen before, and worked. Hardly ideal, but the trick was to get it to recognise it as a blank and initialize. Currently burning my first disk. Didnt realise about 'FAST' mode, so taking ages.
