Is the disk you bought complyable with the playability? The playable for Panasonic DMR -ES30V list is

Video formats: SVCD?, SVCDSubs?, SVCDTracks?-->

JPG, DVD-JPG

No it won't, the player is designed to playback DVD movies bought from the stores and is limited to a single format.

Put a video CD and see whether it reads and plays. If it also does not plays, or if video CD only plays and not DVD; in both cases; the Laser Pickup Unit is faulty and should be replaced with same type and number. OK.

I can't play some DVD's on my Coby DVD player. The screen says WRONG DISC. Can I get it to play all DVD's?

only if makers have a firmware update for it.
some manufacturers dvd players will only play genuine dvd`s they will not play copies or they will only play +DVD`s not -DVD`s or DVD-+rw

Instead of playing the media (movie) the screen just shows the Coby brand rolling on the screen, the movie never plays

Im assuming you want to unlock you DVD player so thats its region free??

Try this:

Coby DVD-R1200

The disc tray has to be empty
Press RETURN
Press INFO
Enter 8, 8, 8, X (X is the region code, 0 = multi-region)
Press ENTER (or RETURN)

We have region 2 DVDs we purchased (from UK) and only now learned to our dismay that we cannot play them on our DVD players (a Sony something-or-other and a Coby 588). What's our solution??

Coby 588 region hack
Open disk tray
press 1379
then press the number that corresponds with the region
(0 is region free)
