Make sure you have the latest version of Windows Media Player. XP has all the right drivers but the iRiver needs to synchronise with Media Player inorder to transfer music onto the player using the sync function. Get Media Player 10 or higher then plug the iRiver into the computer.
Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard. All the info/manuals/drivers/upgrades for the iRiver T20 can be found here: http://www.iriver.com/product/p_detail.asp?pidx=71

i had the same situation
this happens when you dont turn off your t20 after you disconnet it from your pc
IRIVERS T2O PROBLEM IS THAT IT AUTOMATICALY TURNS ON EVERY TIME YOU DISCONNET IT FROM PC AND IF YOU DONT TURN IT OFF AFTER THIS - IT FROZES
it wont connect to pc after this happens so you have to wait ussualy (~12 hours) until the battery runs low, so after this has happened wait and then after some time try to press play button (to turn it on) and if the battery is dead - it will show LOW BATTERY sign and then you can connect it to your pc again normaly!
hope this will help
