I have a Mixmaster cake mixer with bent beaters. They are expensive to replace so I want to find a person who can straighten them - it needs to be done perfectly or they won't work. Any suggestions for a person who might do this in Melbourne?

Pry the beater release button out with a screwdriver. There are two screws underneath it and one under the motor housing between the the beater holes. This will allow you to remove the chrome front cover, but not the motor and drive assembly. Getting to the part that contains the gears requires complete disassembly of the mixer. It is not designed for service, and requires patience and a variety of tools to disassemble.
It has a metal worm gear and plastic drive gears. If the beaters are out of alignment, then one or both of the plastic gears are stripped and the mixer is junk. Repair plus shipping costs equals the price of a new mixer. This is the weak point of these mixers and a fundamental flaw in an otherwise robust and sturdy design. It is definitly not the same mixer *********** bought 30 years ago.

Ok um.... did you read your warranty? If you had you would see that this model has a two year warranty.
If you simply called 1 800 458 8407 and told them the problem, they would file your claim and then tell you to cut the plug end off of the cord and send it (Not the unit) along with a copy of the receipt for replacement. They will then send you a brand new unit in the mail to your home. You get to keep everything, including the original unit!!. Now you have double everything (Bowls, Beaters....Mixer) That is a awesome warranty.

Try placing some "braces" rubber bands around the shafts of the beaters. This should tighten the hold of the shaft with the mixer and keep them more straight.
Testimonial: "I will try the rubber bands the next time I use the mixer - Thank you"

If it is plugged into a circuit protected by a GFCI breaker, which it should be if it is a kitchen circuit, reset the breaker. If you know for sure there is power at the receptacle you have it plugged into, then the power cord is bad or you have an internal mixer problem. You will have to pay someone to repair it or take the mixer apart yourself and find out what is wrong. Before paying someone be sure and get an estimate as to the cost of the repair. In some cases you are better off buying an new mixer as the repair costs will exceed to price of a new one.
