You need to download the drivers from the Compaq/HP WEB support/download page. Make sure you select your model laptop and the XP or Vista Windows version of the drivers you require and install them. Use this link to download the drivers http://h18000.www1.hp.com/cpq-country/cpq_support.html

I assume it's a Brother printer not your brother's printer right? I have an HP and it's a wireless printer which is accessible through my network, you have to install the printer driver and software on to the other laptop that is connected wirelessly to your network.
When you need another driver that is not listed here, type what you want in the space above to the right of the words, Question or keywords:
You will be taken to another HP site. Look for the driver you want. Do not be suprised it is named for Vista. Chances are it will still function with XP.

Before you follow though with Hp's alternet driver site. Please run windows update for Vista un till no updates are left. If your printer still fails to run correctly than try HP's alternate drive.
