My Canon 300D does not take photos with an IR remote. The camera is correctly set at 'timer function'. The IR remote is working fine with other cameras.
No, the camera cannot be operated with an IR remote unless it's in 'timer function'. I've tried it with no luck. No, the camera cannot be operated with an IR remote unless it's in 'timer function'. I've tried it with no luck.
Yes, it's been working fine until a few months ago. I needed to hold the I/R remote closer and closer to the sensor and after a while it didn't work at all anymore.Yes, it's been working fine until a few months ago.

There's a new battery in the IR remote and I did do the compact camera trick to 'see' the IR remote. There's a new battery in the IR remote and I did do the compact camera trick to 'see' the IR remote.

I've read that fluorescent lights can affect the IR signal. Any of those nearby(including the new compact fluorescents)? The holding it closer and closer makes me think the IR battery needs changing.I've read that fluorescent lights can affect the IR signal. Any of those nearby(including the new compact fluorescents)? The EOS 300D is called the Digital Rebel in some parts of the world. You can download software for the Rebel from

I use the hacked firmware 2 years ago. Then Custom Function (12) has been set for Mirror Lock-Up = [On].
Mirror Lock-Up only applys on Single Drive and Timer/Remote but not Continuous Drive mode. So I set to Continuous during normal use and immediately set to Single Drive mode for MUL for some shots that need it, e.g. long tele-lens in dim lights.
The 35mm Rebel Ti and the Rebel 300D use the same lens mounting protocol. All Canon cameras designated 'EOS' use the autofocus EF lenses. If your Quantaray lens worked on the Rebel Ti, it will fit and should work on the Rebel 300D.
your flash is acting to 'fill' for you. fill lighting can be a benefit. if you don't want it, see settings menu to turn off flash until you need it. not difficult and worth knowing how to make simple routine setting adjustments. good luck mark
