Question about Eureka Altima Upright Vacuum Model 2996AVS Vacuum
The belt that runs along the side has snapped. Take off the cover in front to see.

If the hose works great as you say, then you need to take the two screws on the top of the cover out. remove the cover exposing the brush and belt. flip the cover over and remove all the build-up in the channel as this is the suction channel that runs along the brush. if it is clogged then the only place where dirt gets picked up is the area under the hose.

The hose between the bottom and the duster thingy is clogged. there is a little ***** to remove the duster from the hose, use a wire hanger or something to be able to get all that stuff out, should work fine. before you begin squeeze that hose part and you should feel stuff in there.

If you have ran over any big objects you might try removing the cover from bottom take out the roller brush and see if it is clogged from the bottom

SOURCE: my eureka 2961avz bagless vacuum has no suction
Usually clogs are in the dirt inlet by the brush roll, or in the hose. Take the hose off from the bottom and see if there is suction, if not, then the hose is clogged. If suction there, then it is lower. Also is the brush roll turning, if not, that could be your problem.

SOURCE: Eureka Boss - no suction in upright postion
when mine does that I find that the hose is not connected properly where it comes off to use the attachments.
If there is suction there, it is a straight shot to the floor unless it is loose where it fits together.

SOURCE: Eureka 2961 BVZ no suction, burning smell
I have the same vacuum. The burning smell is letting you know that your belt is either broken or about to break. I have had mine for a year and have had to replace the belt 5 times. Now I have to replace the brush roller 'cause it broke under normal use. My next vacuum will be a Dyson Ball.

SOURCE: My Eureka Optima vacuum doesn't have any suction
It will as long as long as your accessory hose is properly inserted into the base. Otherwise the vacuum stays on the hose only.

suction does not work from the bottom, but hose work
Have the same problem as Pachica, the hose works great, but there is no suction from the main vacuum. This is a brand new vacuum, so I don't believe there is a blockage, although I did check.
