I have a dell xps one the standalone type computers with an intergrated web cam my webcam works in the webcam manager but it will not work on either skype or msn messenger any ideas i tryed to reinstall the driver but no use

i fixed it yesterday i kind of tinkered with the setting and realized it was a different web cam and the strange thing is i have only one and it is the intergrated cam i have a question what about the issue with msn i try to do the web cam but it says it is in use in another program even though i have all the programs that use the webcam closed aside from msn messenger it still gives me that warning any ideas? thanks proton your instructions are the same steps i took the night before lol :P

HI,
In skype try :

Did you select the webcam in the drop down list in Skype? Tools>Options> Under General Settings>Video Settings>Select the webcam>Save

For yahoo, unistall Yahoo messenger and try downloading the yahoo messenger.

Kindly check if it's still detected on Device Manager. If the driver has been removed, there should be a question mark right beside the name of the device. Try reinstalling the driver, support.dell.com. To simplify your search, type in te service tag number of your computer. (It's a 7 alpha numeric identifier code which can be found on the dell sticker)

You need to install a software to use your web cam. You can use dell webcam manager or any chat software like yahoo messenger, aim etc.

i had the same problem i'm going to tell what worked for me. My english is not perfect sorry.
this is for vista
run (advanced system settings) by typing sysdm.cpl in the search field on the start menu. go to remote and disable remote assistance......beacuse it seems to be in conflict with some webcameras. if it doesn't work for you im sorry.

Dell webcam manager working with msn messenger?

if you have the webcam center opened along with with msn then it wont work on either one of them.
you can try these steps tp check if it works for you or not.

1)look for the web cam center system tray icon and right click on it if its there and select exit

and as u said u cant see you self in web cam console --- in webcam console you can only see your self under the doodling tab and only of your webcam is working at that i.e

either you have the webcam center opened or any other messenger or software which turns on your cam then only ull be able to view your cam in webcam console alongside.
