You may have an earth ground problem with your house electrical wiring-- third prong in AC socket. Get a 3-prong to 2-prong plug adapter ( also called an "AC-cheater plug") and put on TV cord. Try again.

There are two possibilities for that symptoms, Either standby power supply becomes low (less then +5 volts) so system control chip lose its function OR system control itself stops its function. Unplugging TV resets system control and it starts work again. First confirm standby supply is OK, if found good and correct +5 volts, then replace main board that has system control chip. This LCD could have a defective back light inverter board.
If your TV is less then a year old, still under manufacturers warranty. If not, I would suggest to contact sony and ask them for parts availability.

Let's all us KVL32U100M owners sue SONY. For selling lemons and not wanting to support it. Their support web site will provide you with a refurb model as long as you are in the warranty period. Called service and it will cost me $600 out of pocket to repair. SONY thank you for the $1300 paper weight in my basement.
