Question about Microwave Ovens

Microwave Stays On

My microwave stays on after closing the door. The keypad is blank and doesn't work. Is there a way to reset this or is the keypad bad? It is 5 years old.

Sounds like 2 different problems, but it may talke a few posts to narrow it down.

A blank display could mean that you need to set the clock. If you can't, it may be a bad keypad, a problem on the control board, or a bad door switch or door switch mount.

If it stays on after closing the door, it may be a bad door switch or a stuck relay or other problem on the control board.

If you or a friend decide to look into it, we have critical safety information, info on door switch diagnosis and replacement, and
disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

We also do repairs on the boards for $39.95 nationwide.

Please write back with more details if you need further help.

We're happy to help and we appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

I'd look for a defective relay or shorted triac on the control panel circuit board. Either could cause this problem.

I have a gourmetwave in my rv, sometimes light stays on dim and turntable turns slowly, no lights on front. if i unplug it it resets. any ideas

It is a door switch problem, or the keypad control board, the fact that when you unplug the microwave and it resets indicates a keypad control board issue, and if that is the case the part alone will rival the cost of some microwave ovens.

Start button an 1/2 buttons on keypad no work in my GE JVM150H microwave. Interior light also stays on.

The door has latch switches that are part of the protection and operation when door is closed, is the new door identical and switches match up {same number} if everything checks and the door switches are all working, the door needs to be checked for alignment, if it's out a small margin the switches will not operate properly.
