When I start a cycle to wash, I get a popup window that says I need to close the lid. The cycle won't start.
If I bang on the lid hard enough, sometimes it starts.
Where is the switch located on this model so that I can inspect it and see if it needs replacing?

Re: Close the Lid problem on GE Profile Harmony
Kevin, the switch is magnetic operation. You will have to remove the top to get at it. Do this by removing the back panel. Inside the panel on the left side will be 4 harnesses. Disconnect them. Remove the pressure switch hose from the tub. Remove the ground wire. In back on each side of the top panel there will be 2 phillip screws, remove them. Now lift the top from behind and slide foward. The whole top comes off. The lid switch will be on the underside just in front of the dispensor. You can test the sensor by using a magnet. Just open the lid and place a magnet just in front of the dispensor on the left side. The washer should work with the lid up. Catriver

It is usually within the lock mechanism, try putting a small bar or something That look like the bar of door latch thru female mechanism, It should start when activated ( stop It when it´s filling up before There is enough water, you should not get swamp... )
Many washing machines won't spin or drain if the lid isn't closed. It could be that the switch detecting the lid close position isn't working or the tang that presses the switch isn't depressing the switch enough. Check to see if the lid is closing all the way, if so, then locate lid close switch and pressing on the switch with a Q-tip. If other functions stop when the lid is opened and work when the lid is closed then you have another problem. The problem could be in the wash cycle switch, try spin and rinse all the different settings.
Use a putty knife to remove the front panel first/ The putty knife will insert between thr top of the lid and the front panel about 2 inches in from each side. The panel will pull forward then up to remove it. Then remove the screws holding the lid down. You may have to open the control console to remove the lid.
theres a SAFETY SWITCH underneath where the TOP LID closes , when lid is close it will activate the SPIN CYCLE , check SWITCH with a multimeter for continuity , hope this solves your problem , thanks AJ
