When I push the power button the lens comes out and the screen lights up, then as soon as the lens goes all the way out it will retract and turn off. I tried to change the batteries that did not help. Please help me Jenn
easy! charge the battery.With power off,whack the base of the camera against the palm of your hand four or five times.wait five minutes,turn camera on and whack the side of the camera nearest the lens against the palm of your hand.then whack the base again and the lens should pop out.Worked for me!!!

smack it on something, i dropped mine after 30 minutes of frustration and it started working. the next time that it happened i hit it on my table on purpose and it worked. i dont know why but this worked.
"turn off the power and on again" its a very commen problem and occurs when the lens block assembly start malfunctioning. Actually the slide motor not work properly and until the lens not come out completely the camera will not work, that's why the error message appears "Access" and then screen shows "turn off the power and on again". In this situation you have to replace lens block assembly.And the part No. is with description is given below:
1-788-363-11 OPTICS UNIT (ED13A)
Thanks for using fixya.
I have to agree with one of the comments previously posted. I too had a Sony DCS-S700 and the lens was stuck open. Whenever I turned the camera on, the Sony Cybershot logo appeared and dissappeared, turning the camera off. I noticed the lens was crooked, so I moved it in the center direction and the camera worked again.
I have the same problem. Its actually because the On/Off button got pushed in somehow and its stuck. At this time right now, im not sure how to make it unstuck, but sometimes it will stay on. But when you push on, since its being held down, its stuck that way and immediately turns off because its still being held down constantly. Maybe try using a thing needle to try and push it out?
assume lens has been . . . dropped ( typical )
but cost of new lens nearly same as new camera ;
as last ditch effort ' coax ' your lens out with
very gentle ! rocking action - may work one more
time , or will start working again ( good luck ) ;
Good Day, if the steps Sony said still not helped, most probably lens assy is defective, true that when it is left protruding a long time, the lens mechanism might stucked, motors might not work or gears stucked. Thanks
