IBM T40 Hello,My IBM T40 crashed and will not start at all-not in safe mode, not with the Access IBM button, etc. It started crashing unexpectedly (screen went dark etc., and has progressed to this state.I was able to start it a few more times by unplugging the battery, waiting, and starting the machine in IBM mode, but none of this works now.-I have taken the machine apart and reseated the connections. ANd tried F1 and the two monitor F key, but nothing works. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Thanks for your response Ron.

I just tried pressing down hard while trying to boot--nothing happened.

I tried this first as the the computer only has the original/internal memory-which requires taking the whole machine apart. I'll try that in a little bit--in the hopes that if you happen to get this message soon you could please let me know if I should still take the machine apart given the fact that I only have the internal memory module.

Best,

Clay

Well, Clay, sounds like you are in a bit of a fix! Let's see what we can do about it, OK?

To start with, I have a couple of things for you to do so that we can get a little better handle on just what's happening.

First, let's remove the battery, all of the memory and the hard drive. Then replace one of the memory modules and see if it doesn't try to come up. Whether or not it tries to come up, go ahead and replace the hard drive and the other memory module and try to bring it up again.

This exercise may be all that is needed to get it fixed. If not, then continue on.

Secondly, I need you to try to power it on while you press down firmly (really press down) in the area just towards the front of the space bar and just to the left of the touch pad assembly. Hold it down while it tries to go through the entire power up sequence.

Then let me know what happened.

It will unexpectedly shut down with the error number 1073741819. NT Authority\system C\windows\system services exe

Try starting up in Safe Mode. When the computer turns on , immediately begin hitting F8 like mad until you get a screen where you can use the arrow keys to select how to start up. Use "Safe Mode" or "Safe Mode with Networking".

If you can boot up fine without the error, then you have a program installed which starts up along with Windows and crashes, causing Windows to shutdown. Check your installed programs, especially anything you might have removed/added right before this started happening.

If you can't start up in Safe Mode either, there may be something wrong with your Windows installation.

Lenovo t440 crashes on startup

Hi,
Turn on laptop then start tapping the F8 key continuously until you are given an option to start in SAFE MODE.
When you get to SAFE MODE you should be given an option to use SYSTEM RESTORE. From there restore your system back to a date when all was well with it.
Hope this helps

Tried to install update and computer crashed

A few ways to try and eliminate.
Upon startup F8 for safe mode: Last Know Configuraton

Hit F8 for safe mode. Go into accessories>system tools>system restore
Doesn't work then: need Windows CD setup. Let it run and hit R for Recovery Console. At the DOS prompt type FIXMBR or FIXBOOT.
