Dell M60 LCD screen stopped working

All of a sudden, My Dell M60 lcd (WUXGA+) stopped working (3 days after warantee expired). I thought the laptop croaked, but I can output to an external monitor or use PCAnywhere and see the (virtual) desktop. Is the lcd blown? Could it be a loose internal cable connection

Hi,
Based on your troubleshooting, it certainly is the lcd that we are having problems with. It can be the cable or a back light problem. first try to reseat the cable. use this manual to guide you. http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/wsM60/en/UG/index.htm

if it doesnt work, try to call dell. they have a grace period of 5-10 days from expiration date of warranty. if still no luck, call spareparts 800-3573355. purchase the lcd from there and install it yourself using the manual i gave.

hope this helps.

thanks.

I have Acer Laptop suddenly now the screen remains blank even after switching on the laptop. Actually as I was surfing the net suddenly the screen display color changed and later I thought there is...

if you can see the start up screen in full color when it starts then the last update could have caused it,
But its more likely that the plug inside the back of the LCD has come loose and needs to be replugged back in,

READ CAREFULLY FIRST BEFORE STARTING

Removing the screens bezels will void warantee
In Saying that ,

Heres how I would do a screen replacement,

You will need a small philips screwdriver for this ...

Remove the power and battery
To Remove the bezel from the front of the screen
There should be 4 or 6 screws holding the cover on,
Screws may be covered by rubber buttons,
then remove the screws holding the LCD to the hinges' frame.
Tilt forward your LCD and lie screen on your keyboard

LCD panels have a row of IC chips at the top that produce the images on your LCD so do not touch or flex this area because it may produce lines on the LCD or kill it completely.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

botom of screen is inverter power and plug to screen
top rear of LCD is video feed from motherboard,
(above that are those important IC Chips-
DONT TOUCH THE CHIPS)
LCD wiil have tape fastening plug to the socket,
Remove tape and this will expose the plug.
Un plug from screens socket,
Reseat plug back into socket,
Put Tape back on to stop any unwanted movements,

Next step is to power up the LCD to test.

Rest LCD in back of lid and lie lid on table with base at 90 degrees for access to plug in AC power.
do not use battery for this test.
Turn ON power,
If it starts up, then you have a running machine again,
Shut down , unplug power and reassemble,

If LCD does not start then you need to replace the LCD panel and thats about all you can do,

Hope this helps.......

Multiple squiggly lines fill the LCD screen, after

Sounds to me like your inverter has gone bad. Typically it's situated just below your LCD. To get to it you will have to take out the screws around the LCD bezel. It's a long, skinny circuit board that the LCD plugs into. You can usually find a replacement on Ebay. Just be sure that you're ordering the correct part, otherwise it may not fit or work properly. I've also had times when the entire LCD was going bad and the display was full of squiggly lines. It's hard to say which one is the cause. I would try replacing the inverter first. That part is usually much cheaper than the LCD is.

Screen on Dell Inspiron 2200 went totally dark 2 months after warranty expired. Computer still works when I use cables and hook it to TV - but that is very inconvenient. Help?

that means the scren totally went down, there no way to fix, unless you send back to dell.
but there is a evsy way to use the bottom part that buy a extra LCD screen, so you can still using your laptop and display on the larger LCD screen

Laptop New LCD Screen Cycling Colors

It's probably the wrong screen, cable ,or inverter; in spite of what the repair shop tells you .
Also, sometimes the cable gets pinched if not installed carefully, or the cable connector may need to be re-seated.
Is your laptop a Dell Precision M60 ? I'll see which screen it's supposed to have.

Lcd screen black on laptop. External monitor works.

Defective CCFL backlight may has the following symptom:
  • Screen flashs on red/pink and off.
  • Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal.
  • Picture flickering with dim display.
  • Picture flickering on and off.
All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp)
has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.
