Question about Televison & Video

Hitachi snowy screen and noisy

TV just gets snowy (no picture) and very noisy without any action from us. We will just be watching any channel and this will happen. Sometimes one after the other, and sometimes 2 or 3 times daily. The picture and sound are fine when this is not happening. Any ideas about what the problem could be and how to correct it? Thank you

You have broken solder connections inside the tuner, you`ll need a tech as it is soldered in and once removed the board inside will have to be re-soldered. An alternative would be to use the AV outputs of your cable box or vcr to the AV input of your tv, this bypasses the tuner circuit, you will of course have to go into the tv`s menu and switch to AV 1 or AV 2 whichever input you use, good luck& Happy Holidays

All 3 of my Seiki TVs have snowy pictures on cable network. THOR Industries says SEIKI are bad & are switching to Quality Brand--They say I will have to buy a QUAM Filter for these Seiki TV's---WHY ?

I assume you try to watch cable TV without box? Unfortunately some time ago government passed the law that cable companies are not longer required to provide basic programing in Clear QAM. Which basically means no free basic channels from cable company. Only way now is to get free channels is to use over the air OTA antenna. On most cable providers in USA you are not going to receive any channels without box. This is reason for "snowy" picture.

Snowy picture

The remote doesn't effect the channels, I would say you have poor signal or interference from another device nearby.

Snowy picture on VCR with only certain channels

In all likelyhood, you have a bad ground somewhere in the cable. Try other channels through the VCR. If the ground is the problem, there will be a cluster of channels that are snowy with the rest being clear. Check the cable itself and all of the connectors along it.

If the cable and connectors are good, the tuner or power supply of the VCR could be faulty and cause this as well.
